I thought We Were Soldiers was very good.

I personally love the movies Patton, The Bridge On the River Kwai, and the Longest Day. The Dirty Dozen and The Great Escape (not a technical war movie, but close enough) are great as well.

One of my favorite movies is The Patriot. Also Braveheart is a very good movie if you consider it a war movie, and I also love We Were Soldiers.

Saving Private Ryan isn't even the best war movie...Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket are much better, for example.

I wouldn't even say Saving Private Ryan is the best war film. The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Great Escape, and The Grave of the Fireflies are high up on my list. However, I'm currently watching Band of Brothers (on the fourth episode) and, in terms of realism, it's fantastic.

I love BoB as well, though after reading the book, it's weird to see how much stuff they left out, and how much the different events were mixed around.

The patriot and Braveheart come to mind. I also like Gladiator and that is war like. Also, the Transformers 1986 movie was great. The war for Cybertron and Unicron equals masterpiece. I hated Troy. Not relavent but had to be said.

BHD is awesome. But no, people hear 17 in their head and picture a far smaller number of people than it actually is. 17 is a lot of people. It definetly did not seem like a hundred. Watch it again and count. Also, although not really a war movie, Children of Men has the best war scene ever. Even better than BHD.

Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War

One of the best war movies I've seen.

Oh, Grave of the Fireflies gets an honorable mention.

Most war movies I've seen are better than Saving Private Ryan. Sure, its a good Hollywood action film, but its nowhere near the best war film. I'd say Letters From Iwo Jima, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, Das Boot, Taegukkgi, The Great Escape, A Bridge Too Far, Tears of the Sun, Schindler's List, Good Morning Vietnam and Jarhead are the best.

I also thought Battle of Britain was really cool...

I personally think Saints and Soldiers is a great war movie...but I wouldnt call it the best. Any movie honoring men and women of the armed services is a good one in my book.

Assuming we can use movies from any war: Bridge on the River Kwai, Schindler's List, Letters from Iwo Jima, The Great Escape, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Born on the 4th of July, Glory, The Patriot, 300, Hotel Rwanda, The Last of the Mohicans, The Deer Hunter, Bedknobs and Broomsticks. The ultimate war movie for me is The Longest Day. Amazing, long, realistic, and superb cast.

If you count Band of Brothers as a movie than definitely that.
