Seriously.

Most of the time, it's either:

  1. An Atheist trying to disprove the existence of God, or
  2. A Christian asking Atheists what they think, which will always end up bad.

It's sort of stupid if you ask me. There's really no reason I can think of either. It's either someone trying to change someone's beliefs, an aspect of whoever they're trying to change's life that the man/woman attempting to change shouldn't be screwing with, or, to be honest, someone trying to show how smart they are (LULZ I UZE TEH LOGICZ TO SOLVE DIS).

And they really go nowhere. It's usually something like this:

Atheist: Hey, Christian, you can't be right, I use logic! And Agnostic, you're stupid!
Agnostic: I'm on teh fence lulz u can't get meh! heheheheheheh
Theist: Hey, Atheist, you're wrong, m'kay?! And Agnostic, why don't you believe this?

It's also really stupid, when, if you think about it, GameSpot, especially Off-Topic, is dominantly Atheist.

So my question is: Why? What is the point of all these threads? Anyone willing to shed some light?

Whoa, It's the guy I know in a union.:o

I don't look at those. It's not gonna stop and I've even done it before, although it was really neither of those. I do get kinda sick of them. Weird how noone else does.

theres seriously no point in it. just like system wars, the discussions in religious threads go horribly wrong because someone always gets offended or someone wants to start a fire. you can barely say anything without someone flaming you for it. never have posted in a religious thread, never will. looks like a horrible experience. i honestly think they should make OT more lenient on other topics and just outlaw religion topics as they rarely end well. if they are ended well at all, its a provocative topic with 1 reply, of which is a mod kindly noting hes closing it. i feel bad for the mods.

I'll go one step further and say, why bother posting in forums at all? A person will rarely let go of his faulty ridiculous argument, even if he knows he's wrong, in fear of looking like he doesn't know what he's talking about, or looking stupid. So really why bother?

To create arguments that seem to drag on forever, and just when you thought it's over a new thread appears.

I usually make a joke out of me being wrong, but I accept it. I think people are free to talk about religion all they want. They just don't need to make us think anything.

Personally I think they're funny. Everyone in my family argues so to me it's pretty much fun. I don't care what someone believes in unless it gets in the way of other people living their lives, then it's just dumb.

The point of religious threads is to troll other beliefs in my opinion, because either the Athiests call Christians ignorant or Christians say Atheists are going to hell, so at the end of the day it's just two different groups of people with different beliefs trolling each other.

There's no point in me discussing in one of them since everyone has different views and opinions, it's not like I could change that.

The point of religion threads is to prove your religious beliefs and disprove everyone else's that do not share yours. The existence of God, the afterlife, people's destination, among other topics are all questions which can have a severe impact on how someone lives their life so religion threads clearly seek a purpose for being.

Even this thread is turning into a troll off. Therefore, my previous point stands. Religious threads are just troll wars.

In short, so that others might come to know Christ as Lord. At least, that is my own reasoning for participating. However, I do not do so with the expectation that people will flock to Christ with my every word. If one thinks Jesus in a higher light because of my posting or I gain a better understanding of other views so that I can better share my faith in the future, I am headed toward my "in short" goal. Aside from all of that, I simply enjoy this process and the higher goal in mind.

I agree. It's always the same arguments over and over and over. Nobody ever convinces anybody and no new arguments are ever made. It's amusing in moderation, but it gets really tedious in the long run.

However, I do participate in them sometimes, so I'm a bit of a hypocrite.

They pose the universal questions, at least some of them. Those questions have intrigued humanity for millennia. We want to know. It's never been an awfully productive obsession, but it is persistent.

Discussing divisive issues from the safety of your computer is fun. What other reason is needed? I really wish people wouldn't complain so much about them.

Some people find the subject interesting, so they post in them, just like any thread. I personally could never go in one because of certain users who make me want to bash my skull in.

GHlegend77

I don't know what the point is; however, since both sides have their respective unions, I think OT would be better off if the rules were changed to keep all religious or anti-religious threads in the unions and not in OT.

Most of the religion threads are seems to make trolls especially with islamic-related threads. This thread is far sensitive compared to any other religious threads and should be controlled to avoid massive trolling to the users. I'm love some islamic-related threads but i'm strongly hate some of them tried to slamming my religion, which any people can be moderated for doing that, especially with ex-muslim people.

I agree.

I mean how many people have successfully converted a religious person to an athiest or even agnostic view? It never happens or very rarely does. I think if the threads are just there to examine belief without degrading or making a mockery of someone's views, then that is acceptable. I think any thread that seeks to mock another religion by belittling in a trolling way, then that thread should be instantly locked.

Sometimes I feel that people use the excuse of a 'discussion about muslims' or islamic text as an excuse to be racist in the only way they can on a site like this, and by doing so, seek likeminded individuals with which they can find affinity with. I just feel that sometimes the mods don't pick up on this subtlety which is a shame.
