What's the point of having an expensive sports car with modified engines if...

the speed limit is 65 - 75 mph? (Is that it? In the US?)

Ok I can understand because of the look of the car, but why do car companies put really powerful engines in there? Why don't the set the limit at 80 mph? Wouldn't that solve problems? Or do people feel more loved when they know their car could go really fast?
