I recently flew down to North Carolina. We asked what that factory was off the end of the runway. It was a rendering plant, we were told. Then the smell hit. I can't describe the odor except to say that it was just foul. An hour after we flew away it seemed like the smell was still in my nose.
Well a few years ago we were cleaning up the pool for the summer and there was this dead cat that I'm assuming fell in sometime during the winter got under the tarp covering the water and drowned, so when we were trying to get it out it broke in half...lets just say that god awful stench was forever burned into my nostrils.
The smell of forest fire. For some reason I can't think to describe it any other way than as the smell of burning. Not wood burning, not paper burning, not rice burning, etc...just...burning. The smell is disgusting and it starts effecting your other senses. If you're close your eyes begin to itch/water and you get a terrible taste in your mouth. I used to live right next to the woods and when it caught fire you could not escape the smell for miles and it stuck around for days at a time (it burned on three occassions thanks to kids who think playing with matches is funny).
One time I was sick and I pretty much puked from my @ss. It was disgusting. It was at school and my principal came in after I got done and was washing my hands and he checked the stall to make sure it didn't have anything in it.
My dad went to a slaughter yard when I will little to get freash tripe for our Rottweiler. I got no idea why he decided to take me along for that! It was the smell of pure death that your've heard about. There is nothing else like it to compare, you've either experienced it or not.
A looong time ago (actually like 4 years or so), my brother bought one of those Nestle chocolate milks. Well, he drank about half and left it in the car, and someone it got stuck under the seat.... well, it was summer, and it gets pretty hot (even though it's Wisconsin, 90s aren't all tha uncommon). I get in the car and I move the seat a little bit and the cap came off and like 4-month-old chocolate milk came out and it was like 90 degrees out. I couldn't drive in the car for months, nothing would get the stink out.

Agreed, I had to help slaughter chickens once and it was the worst experiance of my life.

Worst smell I've smelt is ammonia in a lab, it actually physically hurt to smell it and I could smell it in my nostrils all day...
