Because everyone just debates whether or not pizza should be counted as Italian since the first pizza as we know it was made in New York, but the first pizza that is similar to pizza we know today came from Italy. So **** it.

Probably because its not italian. it was founded and created in america, and there are just as many if not more pizza experts that are greek.I like all of them actually, they are delicious! But if you put pizza on the list, I would have chose that as my top favourite! :)

According to my research, while the original dish was invented in italy, the american version is its own creature that has just as much greek influence as italian.mattykovax
But Italy still owns pizza. ;)

Pizza gained fame because soldiers in WWII were cooked something resembling pizzawhile stationed in Italy, and brought it back, and modified it (more cheese). As a result, it gained international fame and the Italians hopped on it. And youre right on the greek part.
Now, as for the question, I love a good, genuine Italian pizza...thin crust (chewy throughout, crispy bottom), light amount of cheese (preferably fresh mozzarella), a sweet and mellow sauce, and some fresh basil...thats my favorite food in all the world.
