You clearly haven't seen many movies (or else all the wrong ones).

My favorites of the year are between The Tree of Life, Shame, The Artist, and Take Shelter.

I haven't seen it yet but I suspect by far it will be Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows. I love Robert Downey Jr and Jude Laws' interpretation of their characters. Its always how I imagined them to be - Holmes slightly eccentric, bordering on mad(yet a genius), Jude Law, doubts holmes, more like the voice of reason, disagrees with holmes.

I thought TinTIn was very good, although I haven't seen many films this year. I still need to check out Hugo, Drive and The Tree of Life especially.

Oh gosh I dunno...haven't really thought about it too hard as though I'm something of a film geek I tend to take a dim view of weighing films on one encompassing scale.

asdf

That being said Certified Copy is certainly one of my top contenders as it has really stuck with me throughout the year.

X-Men: First Class.. but aside from that, I've been pretty disappointed this years with movies. I did like Captain America because I wasn't expecting much, but in the reality of it, it was just a mediocre to good movie. Super 8 is a notable mention as well.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II probably. Was a great movie, besides that most of the larger movies to come out this year (POTC 4, Hangover 2, Green Lantern) kinda sucked. Though X-Men, Soure Code, the Adjustment Bureau, Super 8, Planet of the Apes, Moneyball, among others were good.

The Tree of Life. Hugo gives it a run for it's money, I really loved both of them. Still plenty I need to see though.

Drive. That or Breaking Dawn, I was afraid it wasn't going to be as funny as the other movies, but then we got the birth scene.

I'm surprised by all the people saying Captain America. I mean, it wasn't that bad, but I certainly don't picture it as movie of the year material by a long shot.

Drive, Captain America and the last Harry Potter film were all damn good, hard to pick a favorite between them.
