Just trying to see how many Tool fans are here, and among them, which is their favorite album.

Wow O_o

That's quite a jump in the Tool timeline.. Interesting that you're a fan of both styles, I on the other hand have a hard time listening to a lot of their older material.

Haha. They are for the 'true' prog metal fans among us. I know where you're coming from, but I guess I've listened to the genre enough to appreciate their music. They don't compare to other prog metal bands like Queensryche and Threshold, though.

Aenima is by far their best album. If you listend to Tools early work its mainly just art rock, a bunch of sounds mixed in together. But when they released Aenima, thats when they really tied in all of their musics articulation and it turned into a great album.

That's probably the best summarization of what made Aenima so good, and how they changed from that album on.. But i personally think that they topped Aenima with Lateralus. And unfortunately, 10k days wasn't as good, although it was great, it seemed much more... superficial? it didn't feel like it had the depth that Aenima and Lateralus had.. I think myabe Maybard took too much from A Perfect Circle, albeit perhaps unintentionally..

Lateralus is my favorite Tool album (although Aenima is the better album) And yea, 10K was bad imo, a really big let down and yea superficial is the perfect word for it.

agreed. but we're not all pretentious. I chock it up to Maynard... saw a vh1 interview (i believe), jeez, i couldn't be more disappointed in what a prick he was.
