Handgun:

American: .45 Colt Anaconda

European: 9mm Berretta 92

shotgun: shotgun Winchester model 12 - I just love my 16 guage - gives up nothing to a 12 and has slightly less recoil.

.30 06 Remington model 1917(my fave) is still the equal of a Winchester 700

newer is not always better for weapons if they were the best and have been well take care of.

.30 30 - Model 94 Winchester is the perfect brush gun - in second place is the Marlin with the .444 and .45-.70

if you are unfamiliar with the term.

brush gun just means it is easier to handle in cover.

The easiest carrying brush guns are short barreled, quick on the first shot, and just as quick to chamber a second shot. That means a levergun. Since we are talking close quarters, we do not need a three hundred yard cartridge like the .30-06, or 7mm magnum

for any practical use of ordninance of larger sizes visit a military website.:P

IMO anything larger than that should only be used in video games anyway.;)

a roman legion, an actual weapon though would be the nano rifle from red faction-guerilla or one of the alien guns from district 9
