I have to go with Neil Gaimen's Sandman lore. I also enjoyed the whole Ivalice Alliance(FF Tactics, FFXII, FFXII RW, Vagrant Story, FF Tactic Advance 2), PlaneScape Torment, and Xenogears.
Star Wars (everthing after episode 6 is irrelevent). Warhammer 40k Lore is excellent (to bad the TT is getting raped by incompetent GW staff), Elder Scrolls has decent lore (haven't read alot though, but my next oblivy playthrough will be a book collector).
Dune lore by Frank Herbert. I even enjoy his son's, Brian Herbert, books as well despite their crappiness.
Ive been getting into Warhammer Fantasy Lore, also of course, Tolkien books, Warcraft, Diablo, Dragon Age also has some interesting ideas on Fantasy, but one of my favorites are the Inheritance series, like Eragon and Eldest, plus the newest Brisingr.
Does Metal Gear count?VanHelsingBoA64
sure, why not? The game has a long tradition and good story, right?
Oh yeah, I totally forgot about HP Lovecraft; I absolutely adore his stuff. I'm in the middle of a Stephen King binge right now, and then I'm going to pick up some more HP Lovecraft.Lovecraft lore is my favorite.

The franchise has a decent overall story. A little convoluted but still good. Can I add Silent Hill to the list. The "Order" thing and the the Lake, etc were pretty damn good .[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"]

For a movie based off a videogame it is pretty good. I guess as long as you think of the movie as canon to the series (of course it's not)it is pretty good for a SH title too.Lost. I'm a hardcore fan, and have the wildest theories with logical reasoning and facts to back them up (just to throw one tidbit: Claire is possessed, and not by anybody we know of yet. Why else would she willingly stay with Christian in the cabin? Whoever wanted Locke's help in the cabin, and it wasn't Jacob, is using Claire's body as a vessel :P ), and thought I knew it like the back of my hand. Then I went to the wikia page for Lost. The lore is immense. I'm not saying it's the most content rich lore out there, but it's the one I favor over all.
Rome: Total War. Yeah, I know it's historical and all, but real history is my favorite lore. You can't make that stuff up, and if you did people would call you bat-poo loney.
As for purely fictional lore, probably Star Wars.
For some reason I'v always been way into the Harry Potter books since I started reading them 10 years ago to the point where I knew every obscure thing. Other than that I've always loved the story to Metal Gear Solid and follow it closely. Ummm....OH! Despite how horrible the movies may be, I also follow the Saw series pretty close too :P
Halo Lore. I have only played two of the Halo games, but I recently got interested in the story enough to order the three Halo Books from my Library system.
btw : I did take a look at the Warhammer Wiki page. Holy Smokes, there is some depth of information there. interesting.

I dont know anything about Silent Hill lore, though, so I dont know if it was relevant and to what degree.
But from a filmmaking standpoint I thought it held its own...certainly better than 60% of the crap released nowadays
Cythulu Mythos, or atleast the version from the book "Alhazred: The author of the necronomicon"
The lore from the book "Hero in the shadows: Waylander the slayer" was pretty insane too"
As for games, there are too many with awesome lore =PMuddVader
Wow. Another Lovecraftian fan. Except at a convention, I don't think I've ever seen three HP Lovecraft fans in the same place before.
The Elder Scrolls lore rules. The Imperial Library is my favorite particular resource.

That is awesome. 8)
Ghost in the Shell.

I like this one also. :P

Quoting Dune and discussing it's lore is like a past time for my dad and I.

I agree. It's astounding how deep that rabbit hole goes.
I don't really get into fictional lore. It's too specific and all together unnecessary. It's one thing to read a book.. it's another to take the world to heart and start studying it like it actually exists.
