I just thought it would be interesting to see how OT users measure up on IQ scores. Don't be embarrased either way, IQ tests are not definitive and really only reflect logical and analytical ability. I've taken a couple and they average out to 141. I expect good things from you Off-topicites. Which is why I posted this here and not in System Wars .

I've never taken a proper test before, so I don't know. I've been called smart before...so that clearly means I'm over 140+. That's how it works...right?

Being smart doesn't mean a high IQ. It's a measure of logical and analytical ability. And smart could be applied to anything over 100 (which is average). Here's the generally accepted chart. (Over 140 - Genius or near genius) (120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence) (110 - 119 - Superior intelligence) (90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence) (80 - 89 - Dullness) (70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency) (Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness) I'm really surprised at the number of people who haven't taken the test. Most schools in my state offer you a chance to take it a couple times.

I haven't been tested since 1994, but back then they said my overall IQ was 142 and my comprehension IQ was 135. No idea what the differences are.

Then again I don't put much weight behind IQ tests: Most doctors have an IQ of 110, I believe, and I could never be a doctor if I tried.

Using internet tests is not an accurate way to acquire your IQ score. The poll results are most certainly not true. A very small percentage of the population has an IQ in that range...

I don't remember what I tested at. Seeing as it was around 15 years ago when I was in 3rd grade but all I know is that I wound up in Gifted and Talented after, so I guess it's some number above 120.

I'm smart enough to see these online IQ tests for the rubbish they are. Even the standardized ones are no way of judging one's intellect. In fact, the person with highest IQ in the world admitted this herself, I believe. As for the people on here, I didn't look through the rest of the thread, but everyone usually says that they have an IQ of 140+. According to the IQ index, if I recall, that would put them in the top .5% of the population. Considering that most gamers come from families that can at least partially support their gaming habit, this would imply that most of the people here come from at least the middle class. This explains why the average IQ here is probably higher than the average over-all IQ, but it would still mean that a completely illogical percentage of the brilliant people in the world hang out here. *punches a hole in the wall* Therefore, if you are all really that smart, you would have noticed the gas silently filling the room... Have a good day, chaps. *lights a match, obliterating you all*

I'm kind of surprised by how many people know their IQ... I've never taken an official test for it, so I don't know. But it's not exactly important though, accomplishments make IQ irrelevant. It's basically a system that lets Mensa people brag to everyone else.

Yes. The standardized ones give accurate values, but in no way does an IQ test determine a person's intelligence. There's so many other factors involved, such as schooling, parental IQ, wealth, and numerous other variables that just make it impossible to determine exactly. The test is just to give a vague approximation, and everyone that I've known that has taken the standardized test reflects the score somewhat accurately. My last girlfriend and a very good friend of mine has an IQ of 147 based on the standardized test and she is one of the most intelligent people I've ever met, despite not excelling in all of her classes like some people tend to equate with intelligence. Her parents went to the top schools for their respective professions in their home country and moved here to a middle-upper class neighborhood around where I live. To say that didn't have any impact on her intelligence (and work ethic) would be wrong.

I would guess it to be in the mid to high nineties. I'm actually pretty dumb, I can just play around with words in such a way that I can make myself seem halfway intelligent.

Exactly. IQ is a measure of logical and analytical reasoning ability. Hard work and determination will over-come even the highest IQ in my opinion. And the online tests are rubbish, I was intending for people to post actual standardized test scores.

The scale is based around 100. A score of exactly 100 would be considered average.

I'm finding all the responses hilarious. The average IQ of a person with a Ph.D. is 120, and the required IQ to be in the UK's Royal Society is 125. I highly doubt that the majority of this forum is 140+ (which is borderline genius and above).

My IQ is 125.

I took the test in fourth grade and was told it was 144, gifted program, etc.

I hate the very idea of seperating people into programs based on some magic mystical number like IQ.

Mine is 119, if I recall correctly.

This was a standardized test, too, not a random internet IQ test.

Not that the number means anything, regardless of the source...

Agreed. Someone who scores impressively on a standardized test is likely to be intelligent, but I would personally consider someone who excels at a single subject to be equally gifted. Someone like a math prodigy who might not be very skilled at anything humanistic, or an artistic genius who brilliantly understands scope but not math. It's more than simply being able to answer a set of questions.
