First of all recommend me some good songs and singer from other types than the ones below. thanks :)

I like a bit of everything, even in the genres i dislike thers 1 or 2 songs i like. But i really hate Heavy Metal, i hate bands like Slipknot, and those gothic type of bands. The ones that just scream and scream. I mean how can people like that type of music? Its a mess. You require almost no talent at all to do that. Their song lyrics also suck IMO.

If people say that games influnetiate people to violence and such, no doubts this is way worst. The songs have no musical harmony. They have no melody.

And most of the times, the songs are about the devil, vampires, violence, hell, war. Dont get me wrong, thers actually many heavy metal songs i like, but the really hardcore ones, i dont get how people like it.

I would never go to a concert of these guys, and why do their fans need to dress in a gothic way? I would like you to tell me why you like it. Maybe i need to look at it in a different point of view.

Now that i think of it, thers a lot of types of music i dislike. I Really HATE the music that plays in the discotheque, or whatever its called in english, techno music or instrumental or whatever that is. I HATE THEM, i really really really do.

And they ****ing do remakes and remixes of every great song in the world, and they always screw it with their crappy remixes. I hate DJs. And the thing is, everyone at my age loves going to those places at night, to get drunk and listen to that crap.

I always have to refuse going when my friends invite me to go with them, i went a few times, but i cant really stand the loud music. and i dont like to drink, i actually never drinked. So i kinda feel out of place there, whos the guy that never drinks when he goes out at night? And the worst thing is that girls love that ****. And that sucks, every single girl i know, loves going out at night, and i kinda feel left out. It seems the only place girls go to get a guy, and vice versa, is these places. That sucks.

I also dislike hip hop and rap, altough here thers a many songs i enjoy. I used to like it more, now not so much. But if its done well i can enjoy it. But like heavy metal, most of the times this also isnt a very musical genre.

So what are your favorites and least favorites? Also dont forget to recommend me some good songs.

Rap. Yeah, yeah, I realize a lot of people hate it, but I just find it aggravating and not very pleasant to listen to, like a lot of techno.

Really I only hate music that either has no instruments, or has poorly played intruments. I also don't really like music with electronic editing, I just hate the sound.

My least favourite music is avant garde cIassical. After that, it would be just about all popular Western music. I'm sort of the opposite of you, TC, in that I'm really surprised if I find a 2 or 3 pieces in a genre that I really like, and tend to be unimpressed by most of what I hear. I can tolerate anything - even avant garde cIassical - but to sit down and listen to music seriously, I'll say no thanks to just about everything that most people love nowadays.

I like at least one song from most genres...except for country. I'm not big on Top 20/pop music either, and there are only a few rap songs/artists I can tolerate. I also don't like crappy screamo.

I dunno. I can usually find something I like in most stuff. Rap and Techno I've found very little I enjoy, though. Metal comes shortly after that. As for Pianist, I'm not too fond of the avant garde 20th century stuff. John Cage's 4'33" drives me nuts. Though there are some nice uses of Twelve-Tone, even if it isn't exactly tuneful. But twelve-tone/atonal works in things like a Survivor in Warsaw Ghetto and Wozzeck.

I like everything, I would say that the genre with the least amount of music that I like is Country. There's only so many ways you can say "god is wonderful" before it all sounds the same.

I've had the same collection of music for years, I couldn't recommend any to you that you probably haven't already heard. Sorry, I'm extremely lame.

Techno, metal (I'm talking about the kind where people scream into the mics and guitar riffs are loud and obnoxious), new mainstream rap (though I like old school rap), most mainstream pop, and emo.

Some of it is palatable to be sure. And I often find it has unintentional comedic value... but I'd by lying to myself if I said I'd sit down one day to enjoy the latest Stockhausen collection of 5 hours and 23 minutes of random electronic noises fused with a meowing cat.

It's a small choral ensemble. Maybe twenty people. Alot of the stuff is a cappella (without accompaniment). With the right pieces and the right singers, it is absolutely gorgeous.

I also hate metal and dislike most of today's music. I mostly listen to 70's, 80's and 90's stuff. I listen to Rock for the most part. Check out Cheap Trick that's the name of the band, most of their stuff is awesome. Check out "Mighty Wings" "Surrender" and "The Flame". I don't know if this is your kind of music but you might like it.

I listened to a small chamber choir a few weekends ago. Sacra/Profana. Very good. They have an actual tenor section. Last year I was in my high school's chamber choir. We sang Rachmoninoff's Bogoro Ditse, among other things.

Not quite. A gospel choir is a choir that sings gospel music. A chamber choir might opt to do a gospel piece, though.

As an avid metal fan, I feel like I have to correct you on some of this stuff. First off, you're totally right about Slipknot. They're god awful. They're NOT a good example of a talented (or likable) metal band. Most metal fans won't even call them metal - it's nu metal. In other words, garbage.

As for your comment that metal bands just "scream and scream" and how they have "no talent at all," I'll have to disagree. First off, screaming like they do isn't exactly a cake walk. Try it for a minute. Now do it for a two hour concert. Now again night after night for a two month long tour. Not so easy, is it? The sheer endurance that it takes to do something like that should garner at least a *little* bit of respect for the guys, don't you think? They don't do it because they can't sing - tons of "screamers" can sing better than a lot better than rock artists. Just check out the whole melodic death metal subgenre for evidence. They scream to make the music sound darker. If you have someone with the voice of Brittney Spears singing over the guitar riffs of a band like The Faceless, it just sounds weird. The vocalist needs to match the instrumentalists, and screaming does that best.

The same thing can be said about the lyrics to some extent. Personally, I don't give a rat's rear end about what an artist sings about. I listen to music for music; if I want words, I'll read poetry. But, again, if you have a vocalist singing about fluffy bunnies and rainbows in the dark keys that metal bands plays in, it doesn't follow suit. You need consistency. What's darker than blood, Satanism, sodomy, and war? Not a whole lot, my friend. Moreover, plenty of harder bands don't sing about dark topics like that. If lyrics like that aren't your cup of tea, there are actually "Christian" metal bands out there that sing about happier stuff.

Dress code: yes, a lot of them dress like it's Halloween every single day. Yes, it looks rediculous. They probably have reasons, and I honestly don't know what they are. Regardless though, you shouldn't stereotype the fans like that. I've gone to all kinds of metal concerts and I haven't dressed like that even once. I go in jeans and a metal t-shirt (Slayer or something to that effect). That's how most people dress when they go to a concert.Of course, there's always the crazy exceptions (some people do go in black lipstick and spicked bracelets). More power to 'em.

Now for the biggie: the talent of the guitarists and the drummers. I want you to go listen to a song by Meshuggah. Try to count the guitar part. I dare you. It's IMPOSSIBLE (31/16 time or something like that). That type of rhythm alone is way beyond most musicians in other genres. The keys that they play in make music theory majors cry. Metal artists are some of the most knowledgeable people about music - calling them nonmusical is like saying that Calculus isn't math. Once you realize how good they are at what they do, maybe you'll have a little respect for them.

Oh, and as for music that I hate, it's pretty much just rap. With the exception of free styling (impromptu rhyming might be a little tough), they actually ARE relatively talentless in terms of music. It's monotonous by definition. A lot of them can't tell a B from an E, and they honestly don't care. They have words and rhythm. That's not music, that's poetry. The problem is that their lyrics suck too much to pull that gig off. Really.

I don't like country either, but I can't justify that. I can at least respect what they do to some extent.

Either Reggae or Country. I like one or two rock style country songs (ones that don't go on about being a cowboy). I have never heard a reggae song I liked but I also hear far less reggae than country. I also am not a fan of rap though there are a few rap songs I like (mostly comedic parodies)

If you dislike Metal its all good, but saying its "Gothic" along with the fans is stupid and shows that you pretty much dont know anything about the music itself. Goth and Metal are two different music styles and have their own sub culture.

Anyways I dislike most mainstream rap/ hip hop/rnb, corridos or as I call it "Ranchero music", reggeaton, pop music, and "core" music except for grindcore.

You talked a lot of how hard it is to do what they do. Does it matter? that wont make it any better. Harder not always means bettter.
