Since hugging isn't ever really sexual I will have to say it is perfectly acceptable and I would encourage it. It's pretty much a more friendly handshake shared between two close friends.
I hug a few of my friends, usually with a handshake then hug. No big deal to me. I did hug my little brother a bit back when I dropped him off at the air base to head to Iraq and I think it hurt us both we hugged so hard, we looked at each other and were like damn!

Although I am heterosexual, I'm a very "touchy feely" kind of guy. In certain situations, I always give man-hugs to my close friends, such as during a greeting.

Totally normal... I hug my friends all the time, it's just like an awesome handshake/high-five depending on the situation. The only people I won't hug are the ones are creepy or gross.
I give all my friends hugs, especially when I havent seen them.
Its only awkward when you see them from a distance, then run up to them, pause, then embrace. I did that once, and eve I felt like giving myself crap for doing that. Fortunately my friends did that for me :P
But no, its not gay or anything, jeeeez. And its not like we are kissing eachother, though even that is perfectly fine in other cultures.
it depends on the moment. if you justaccomplishedsomething or are excited than it's fine, but if your just hugging for the heck of it than it's kinda weird

Thanks, he's ok, driving a hummer on the main hwy in Baghdad checking for IED's. But only 1 month into ??? Even though I knew it was coming for a while I've had quite a tough time with it. He's 28, I'm 33 and I have always been very opposed to the war, and feel I should protect/watch after my little brother regardless of age and now I can't. Been very angry about it since he left, but there's nothing to do about it. Again thanks for the concern.
it really depends on why and how they are hugging. if he was hugging a friend he hasnt seen in a long time its cool. if he is hugging a friend he sees daily in a greeting way then that is not ok. plus the hug has to be done properly, not the same way you would hug a girl. hand in hand, inside shoulders touching and then a pat on the back is exceptable.
