I have total respect for the athleticism thats involved; the people who compete need just as much physical training, practice and skill as any other athlete. However, the whole idea of the sport just bugs me. A sport where the idea is to literally beat your opponent physically until they can no longer play the game is just dumb as far as im concerned. Ive always been against it, but I'm curious what more people think.

I would enjoy it more if not for the horrific price some of those dudes pay later in life.

I see it as a sport and the fighters as athletes so I'm ok with it.

I'm indifferent towards it - no interest in watching it, no qualms about them doing it (it's their body).

I love boxing. Been a fan for 25+ years. A great, tactical boxing match is one of my favorite things to watch, and they're incredible in person.

I have been growing very interested in Boxing lately. I try to watch it whenever I can. MMA and UFC or whatever seem a little, maybe, trashy? I don't mean to disss on the fighters at all, but MMA feels very second-rate compared to Boxing.

MMA may look a little undiciplined during the fights, but most of them are experts in at least one martial art. They spend a lot of time and effort to get that good.

Its not like its all out brawling though, there are rules in both MMA fighting and Boxing and all other types of legal combat sports(whatever those may be). Now if I were watching people fight to their deaths, it would be different, but its just for sport, nottoo different from, but far from gladiatorial games at the same time.

It is definitely entertaining but it is also barbaric at the same time. I mean, fighters definitely pay the price later in life.

No doubt, they are experts and very good fighters, but the manner in which they fight is not my favorite.

Its really fun to watch and much more entertaining than painfully slow-paced baseball or soccer. I really like UFC and boxing is pretty cool, but we really need to bring back the time of gladiators! Man, that would be awesome! I could really care less if people get injured/die for my amusement.

I might watch a boxing match once in a blue moon, but UFC bores me. As for the physical toll, it makes me feel a little awkward knowing the repercussions, but it is their choice to participate.

I love watching the fights. Boxing is still the superior sport in that it has the better athletes, but I hate how the sport is killing itself from the inside out. The top contenders duck each other, the good fighters NEVER fight on cable or network television, there are far too many organizations (WBO, IBF, WBC, Ring Magazine, etc), and some of the weight classes are flat-out unnecessary. The abundance of championship belts is really devaluing them. On the other hand, MMA is much better run in the sense that the best fighters are matched up. But there's really no arguing what would happen if you put someone like Vitali Klitschko or Floyd Mayweather in the ring with them. They'd obliterate the best of the MMA fighters.

Haha, no. MMA fighters are very, very good athletes. But boxers are world-cIass athletes. Olympians and world champions. The best boxers have been training twelve hours a day since before they were teenagers, and boxing has a very long and very definite method of training. Just watching the average MMA fight, it's clear that these guys are telegraphing punches. They have no idea how to dance or slip punches, and many of them can't jab or even keep their hands up. Manny Pacquiao would knock out any MMA fighter in his weight class inside one round. They'd never be able to get ahold of him to take him down, and none are fast enough to kick him. And you obviously aren't going to stand there and try to strike the best boxer in the world.

Nobody with a ground game would get his hands on a boxer. They'd just walk right into a punch and hit the mat. Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko may very well kill an MMA fighter with those thin gloves. These MMA fighters can't dance and they can't slip punches. Telegraphing punches and trying to shoot the knee will get you knocked out against a world-cIass boxer.

your ignorance is laughable. do you know how many world ****athletes there are in MMA? olympic gold medal winning wrestlers, judokas, etc. world champion jiu-jitsu champions also. sorry, but you're an idiot if you think you can be dominant in MMA with just boxing. do you even watch the sport? countless strikers have been exposed and destroyed for the simple fact that they have no ground game.

ALSO, Rampage jackson, a former champion in the UFC, did a test where they measured his punching power. he hits harder then Mike tyson in his prime. mike tyson punching power > klitchko bro's punching power. go read a book on MMA. or, join the MMA union and start a friendly debate.

I've watched MMA for a long time. And not one decent boxer has been in UFC except Ray Mercer, and he's pushing 50 years old. And he knocked out Tim Sylvia, 15 years his junior, in twelve seconds.

i knew you would try that. too bad sylvia was never a legitimate champion. i hope you're also aware that floyd mayweather junior was too scared to fight sean sherk in an MMA/boxing match hybrid. also, just because you're a pro boxer, doesn't mean success. for example, rampage has insane head movement and can slip and slip out. he also has an iron chin. he would knock the klitchko brothers out cold. punching power + iron chin > technique. finally, in boxing, a lot of boxers records are inflated. they're given low quality fighters to make them seem legit. you obviously don't know boxing or MMA, so lets stop arguing.

the point of MIXED martial arts is to master and display a variety of martial arts. Manny will have his arm pulled out of his socket by any BJJ master

That's the most hilarious thing I've ever read. If Rampage Jackson is such a great athlete, why is he fighting for chump change while the Klitschko brothers bring in tens of millions of dollars every time they get into the ring? Quit fooling yourself. I've watched UFC since it began. I watched Pride until they were bought out. And I've never seen a heavyweight that could slip a punch worth a damn. And I've never seen a striker who could put together a halfway decent combination. They all telegraph their punches. The heavyweight boxing division is pathetic at the moment, but even so. Fedor, Lesnar, Mir, Couture... not one of them would last two rounds with Vitali or Wladimir.

[QUOTE="savebattery"] Haha, no. And you obviously aren't going to stand there and try to strike the best boxer in the world.savebattery

Majority of MMA fighters started their careers with a martial arts class from when they were kids, or started with high school wrestling.

the point of MIXED martial arts is to master and display a variety of martial arts. Manny will have his arm pulled out of his socket by any BJJ master

They'd never get their hands on Pacquiao.

You speak as if boxers are invincible.

[QUOTE="LeGoofyGoober"]rampage has insane head movement and can slip and slip out. he also has an iron chin. he would knock the klitchko brothers out cold. punching power + iron chin > technique. savebattery
Fedor, Lesnar, Mir, Couture... not one of them would last two rounds with Vitali or Wladimir.

sure, in a boxing match they would lose via boring decision. but in an MMA match, rampage would knock them the hell out. also, MMA fighters make "chump change" because it's a younger sport, whereas boxing is an established sport.

exactly. BJ would rip manny apart. he's a short lightweight at 155. there's no featherweight division in the UFC so he would have to move up in weight. he would get torn apart by sherk, BJ, Ken Flo, etc...

Not at all. Many failed boxers get their asses handed to them regularly in MMA. But the best boxers would trash the best MMA fighters, hands down. Boxers are better conditioned and more skilled.

No. A championship boxer would knock out any MMA fighter regardless of the type of match. Boxing is down to a science. MMA is not yet a mature sport, and NOBODY in MMA has fought anyone half the caliber of a Klitschko or Pacquiao. I like MMA. I'm not here to belittle it. But I've been watching both sports for a very, very long time. The way Mayweather can dance, punch, and slip punches... he'd just toy with anybody UFC put in the ring with him.
