When I started my real reading for just fun days I was automatically in note-taking mode. And starting out on Harry Potter while in that mode did not prove to be fruitful. So I stopped taking notes completely but think I should actually consider it a little bit again. My main tactic is reading when I'm truly bored to death. I get myself all worked up to read books I'm excited about, but have a hard time putting the time in. :(
Um, it depends. If there is an issue presented that I have an opinion on, or if a question is asked, I write out my response/feelings. If a passage makes me think of something in particular, I usually note it. If I felt a certain way after reading a part of a book, I write that down, too. I feel more connected to the story that way, and also if I go back to the book later, it's really interesting to see how it made me feel at a certain time.I've never understood making notes in the margins, but thought it would be cool to do. What exactly do you take notes/talk about?

That's true--it depends on the book whether or not I take notes. I recently read the Hunger Games series, and those books are very fast-paced. Stopping to highlight/take notes would honestly slow me down and make me enjoy the story less, I think, so I just read those straight. Some books just don't call for it.When I started my real reading for just fun days I was automatically in note-taking mode. What i had in mind was writing down major plot points in case i got confused with the story so i can go back and look. Or with reference or history books you can just take notes about something in particular that you found interesting.I've never understood making notes in the margins, but thought it would be cool to do. Oh, well I turn on the lamp and turn the pages I guess.
I haven't read a book since like 8th grade.1krypticFew months ago then. Anyway, I just read...I never take notes or anything, everything stays on my head, mostly the bad stuff so I can bash the writer and call his book trash...nah.

I just read. I can read a page and skip the rest of the chapter and know exactly what is going on; depending on the book of course.

 no, I'm just a speed reader. But there have been some books thatI cannot get into and then I slog through them. I think i actually got 1/2 way though a book and never finished it. But I will never read her books again as they are just too boring. The author I solgged through is Margaret Atwood. No joke.
I usually start to read before I go to bed. Sometimes just a few chapters but if the book is interesting I often end up staying up much later than I should be.
What happens if you drop your book? UbiquitousAeonThis hasn't happened since I was in high school. :P But if it does, you just let it dry. You can still read a book that's been wet, the pages just get fluffier. :P
Reading doesn't usually spark any debates during or after reading the book, i just read when i don't want to do anything else. Never take notes if i come across crazy words i've never seen before, as i usually get the gist of it in context.Probably the most common times i read are before bed and during long trips.
