I generally don't approve and never did it as a child myself. I can see encouraging a child to speak up on certain, serious situations where some kind of telling is necessary. Other than that children should NOT be encouraged to tell things like, 'Ms. Wellington, Jennifer brought an ipod to school', Henry stole my notebook from my desk', 'Joseph didn't do his homework'.
It's things like this that produce grown adults tattle telling even worse than children. I see it at jobs for example where an employee will feel a 'call of duty' to alret a supervisor that Debra (who works in a different department) uses the back door to sneak out and get coffee up the street while she is on the clock. Yet Debra might be the person who will work through her breaks, does overtime if need be and always makes sure someone is there to cover her when she leaves. And who is to sayDebra isn't getting coffee on her bathroom break?
What does tattle telling in this fashion resolve other than providing an inconvience to everyone else? Sometimes it seems like a lot of adults are worse than children acting so spoiled, rotten and self absorbed. Or am I missing something?
