I generally don't approve and never did it as a child myself. I can see encouraging a child to speak up on certain, serious situations where some kind of telling is necessary. Other than that children should NOT be encouraged to tell things like, 'Ms. Wellington, Jennifer brought an ipod to school', Henry stole my notebook from my desk', 'Joseph didn't do his homework'.

It's things like this that produce grown adults tattle telling even worse than children. I see it at jobs for example where an employee will feel a 'call of duty' to alret a supervisor that Debra (who works in a different department) uses the back door to sneak out and get coffee up the street while she is on the clock. Yet Debra might be the person who will work through her breaks, does overtime if need be and always makes sure someone is there to cover her when she leaves. And who is to sayDebra isn't getting coffee on her bathroom break?

What does tattle telling in this fashion resolve other than providing an inconvience to everyone else? Sometimes it seems like a lot of adults are worse than children acting so spoiled, rotten and self absorbed. Or am I missing something?

It says a lot more about the person doing the tattling than the one being tattled on. It reflects a generally bitter and vindictive attitude towards other people, and that's just going to lead to a very low quality of life. Especially since everybody hates people like that.

Then, when off company property and still covered by company insurance you get injured, things get fun. Especially when HR is a raging beast coming down on your supervisor who, trying to save his own bonus/performance review, says that no one reported that dick using the backdoor. So HR pulls every single soul near that door and someone is taking the blame.

So "debra" should go back to her damn desk or out a window in the bathroom so that no one else needs to be involved.

Expect to die, that's all I gotta say. Even if you tattle on someone on here and they find out... don't think that oh it is a moderation, no big deal. Yeah, you won't be saying that when some crazy person comes in your house and chokes you while you are eating your Cheerios. I am from Kansas City, this is from experience.

If it's not to give oneself a feeling of self absorbed righteousness, then it's only to create a scene from being bitter about something.

Like at work, there is this one cat who brings in lists of bootleg movies in the warehouse to give to people so they can check off what they want and he'll bring 'em the next day. I don't like Hollywood to begin with, let alone when a neanderthal is trying to sell me a counterfeit copy of one of Hollywood's films, but I certainly am not going to tell on him because that's his business/problem. He knows now that if he comes to me again talking to me like a salesperson trying to get my money by selling me his crappy bootlegs, then I will go to HR.

However, there is this one other cat who buys from him and constantly has issues with the copies he receives and is always threatening to go to HR unless he gets his money back. So he'll buy his crappy movies, view them, return it to the man claiming issues and then uses HR as a threat when the bootlegger offers another copy or a different movie. Seller tries to avoid Buyer, but then buyer wantes to buy more and also threatens him with his job if he doesn't sell him a movie he's interested in. Sell him a copy for what? So he can claim "issues" and then force seller to give his $ back or "else"?

Tattle tells are nothing but scallywags.

No one likes getting told on which I think is where the accusation of "Tattle Tale" came from in the first place. Some dumbass kid did something bad one day and another kid knew about it. Not wanting to get caught the first kid told the second that if he told on him that he would be a "Tattle Tale" as if that kid had done the bad thing and not he himself.

It completely depends on the situation. Generally I frown upon it, however if you're doing something at work that you aren't supposed to be doing, then you deserve to get in trouble, especially if it involves you not working when you should be. I can't tell you how many times I bust my &*$ at work and see other people doing their jobs as slow as slugs. It's not like I go ratting them out to my bosses, but I definitely wouldn't care if they were ever fired. You have to think about these things from another persons shoes. Why is it ok for you to break the rules and not everyone else? It isn't, so quit breaking them.

I think that generally they feel inferior and are trying to make sure others feel inferior as well. However, as a supervisor myself, I would wonder why the "Debra" in your scenario snuck out the back door to get coffee and then worked through her break...why not just get coffee on her break. That kills two birds with one stone since working during a break is technically a violation of labor law and Debra wants coffee. Just sayin'...

I don't speak in riddles. "Debra" is a hypothetical example of any random person. I am not "Debra" nor has that particular situation happened to me personally. I do however see many adults who have no problem being a tattle tell just for the sake of snitching instead of simply minding their own business. I agree with you about HR avoiding insurance claims but at the end of the day, people should be more concerned with their own affairs than worrying about what the next person is doing.

From a workplace perspective, the environment becomes hostile when there are people constantly looking for tiny things to go complain to the manager about in hopes of getting someone written up or fired. Personally, I've never snitched on anyone at work and would only do so if it posed harm to someone or blatantly wrong. I once had a job where all the employees were men and we never did such crap. On occasion, we even covered up for each other when a small mistake was noticed. The company got sold and everyone went their seperate ways, but seriously miss those days.

The seller should simply stop selling movies in the warehouse period. If the buyer reports that to HR, when the seller admits that the 'buyer' was purchasings bootleg flicks, they'll both be terminated anyway. That buyer seems like a p**** anyway playing kiddie games like that.

If it's something trivial, I let it go. If it's something serious like habitually clocking in and then just disappearing? Guess what? I'm not going to let anyone get away with skating while I slave away. If he has a problem with it, then he can take it up with me. If he whines about it, I don't give a crap.

I don't approve of tattle tells, unless the situation is serious enough to warrant something horrific. Then I'd encourage the kid (or whoever) to go tell an adult or someone with more life experience/whoever is in charge.

It depends on the situation. If someone is willfully breaking rules such as taking breakes by going through the back door while being on the clock, I would expect someone to speak up. Pointless tattle telling that serves to annoy the supervisor/teacher rather than help him/her deal with important issues is definitely ****ty (ex: 'Joseph didn't do his homework").

I agree with you about HR avoiding insurance claims but at the end of the day, people should be more concerned with their own affairs than worrying about what the next person is doing.

I agree with you on people trying to find problems at work to snitch about. I just do not agree that protecting your own ass first is of any shame. If I walked past a window and saw Debra bum rushing for coffee I couldn't care less. If she uses the damn back door next to where I work, where I cannot easily feign seeing/hearing it, then yeah it is my business. Of course it is generally the stupid ones who cry the most for being reported because they are so haphazard in their affairs at work.

I like to go to work, work my ass off, and go home. I need the money. When I working a seasonal side job during my early 20's for extra money someone was stealing from the warehouse. Specifically, from where I worked. After security grilled me and searched all of my **** I told him to stay the hell out of my work section. Steal from his own damn area. He then just reported that I was the thief instead. Luckly security installed a new camera the night before and caught him and another stealing. I still almost got, and as HR explained, should of been fired. They just couldn't prove what the other dude said. I was not allowed to go back the next year.

So I cover my own ass. Without warning. Cause I grew the hell up.
