When I use it, I am basically saying attractive or nice looking. :? I don't know about other girls. They might say it in order to not be mean? I dunno. When I say something, I mean it.
lol, just yesterday I was told by my fifth period teacher that "cute" actually means small!? So if you say "that girl is cute" that means you just said that girl is small. Wierd :?.
But honestly if a girl says that it probably depends on the context in which she said it or how she said it. I'm guessing it means that she doesn't find you attractive but rather childish.
I'm pretty sure it means the same thing as when we say girls are hot, even 10-year-old say stuff like that. (When younger people say it) It usually doesn't mean that they think the other person is hot or cute but just that they like them.
Most of the times people have said I was cute was when I said or did something. Like people have said, they like your personality and think it is 'cute'. Only a few times have people called me cute because of my appearance, but its usually like "OMG your clothes are/your outfit is so cute!" Its just a t shirt and jeans :?
There is no possible way for us gamespot posters to know what she really meant, unless we get a video of her saying it. The majority of human communication is through body language. Basically this means that depending, on her intonation, how she was standing, and what she was doing as she said this, it could be her being honest, sarcastic, playful, and condescending. When she told you you were cute, how did you feel? How ever you felt, was probably the right assumption. You might be unsure now, but when she told you that, if you thought she was just being mean, then thats probably what she was doing.
I've always been called "cute" too. I've also gotten a few "handsome"s here and there, even "adoreable", but a girl has never called me "hot" or "sexy". I think handsome fits me better than cute. MetalGearRex007

Personally, I prefer Handsome over hot or sexy. Sure girls wanna sleep with "hot guy" and "sexy guys" but thats a passing phase that ends with age/diet. Handsome men, still remain handsome even if they age. Much like beautiful women stay beautiful with age...you know "Beauty is Eternal." But being hot is too messy. If you gain a little weight, your hotness level drops. As you age, you lose your hotness. So IMO, be glad when women call you handsome/cute because that lasts. :D
Cute can mean different things depending on the context. If it is after something funny or stupid you did and is not sarcastic than it is mostly dealing with personality and such. "You look cute today," "That was cute," and "that's.... cute" all have different meanings... only the last being bad. A pause before the word cute is rarely a good thing. Hopefully you can figure out what it would be in the other contexts.

Hmm, it doesn't usually mean they want to go out with you, girls aren't necessarily attracted to the cute guys, more the hot guys. So it could mean a number of things; sympathy, wanting to be your friend, etc. Just don't get your hopes up.
It means you're cute duh. If you are still single, it means you shouldn't have a hard time finding a girl based on looks sometime in the future. Its a compliment.
