When did you realise what you wanted to do later in life?

People always ask Childeren what they want to be later, they always say stuff like racecar driver or astronaut.

My question to you is: When did you think "you know what i actually want to be [Insert carreer]

For me it was just being fascinated by computers and just love tempering with them, also seeing people being happy from what you did was a big plus! i thought of this on the mere age of 10!

@dylandr: Don't get me wrong, I've known what I wanted out of my personal life ever since I was 12...it's just the professional side that's unclear. Got forced into studying programming by my mother, after 10 years of working in that field I decided to change to something I was good at: massages, so I studied physiotherapy and I love helping people but when I see my wife absolutely loving every second of her work and preferring it over almost everything else I realise I don't have that...

My biggest wishes in life were to find a good wife (got that) and to become a father...all other major things I've achieved already.

I still don't know. And I'm 27..

Around the age of 17 when I had to determine which university to apply to. I decided for Computer Science as any other option seemed pretty mundane to me. Not that I have an immense love for computers, but I've grown to enjoy working on them. No regrets so far, the developing/programming part is actually kind of fun.

When I started working in pharmacy. I worked in a large store as a cashier and they were desperate for a body in the dispensary and called me in. I proved my worth and they kept me. I got better and I wanted to learn more so I went back to school to be a pharmacist.

@korvus: No i mean, both pick a name and let us vote between those names (it's still your choice but you can see what the crowd thinks of the name)

I wanted to be a racer like my dad was but then, I didn't know being a racer was hard when I was 10. At a later date, I wanted to work in the medical field and here I am. My mom and Sister work in medical fields and I thought I guess you could say, I'm just keeping the family tradition :-)

After spending the last 17 years in the corporate world, I realized that I want to retire.

lol I wish I knew... as far as professions go I'd love to be a boxer, but it's way to tough to actually give up the comfortable life I probably have ahead of me... So now all that's left for me is to decide what to do with my Economics degree (luckily I also like everything sociopolitical and economic related).

Where my social life is concerned, I'm not worried, I know It'll turn out just fine :D

I still want to be an astronaut. In fact much more so now when I know more about the wonders of the Universe and our own Solar System.

If I have a kid and he turns out to be fat can I call him Prime instead? Then when we need to go somewhere I can just turn to him and tell him to "roll out!"

What prompted you to make your decision there and then?

Not fully sure yet. Got 4 more years of graduate school to decide whether to try to be an academic or do something else lol

Truck driving.

I was doing "small truck" deliveries (5-ton is the legal maximum with a base license) and loved it. So after being fired from my job (officially on paper, I "quit") for wanting appropriate pay for the work I was doing (I was making $10.50 CAD/hr, with unpaid overtime, for work that is normally paid starting at $17 CAD/hr with paid overtime) and spending summer/fall 2014 doing some "soul searching" I got training to be a full blown Class 8 truck driver (largest class of truck in North America) and now drive this:

Since I was five years old I wanted to be a programmer. I didn't know what that entailed at the time, but I was fascinated by Super Mario moving across the screen at the push of a button. It was the coolest thing to me. It would be years before I got my hands on something to do with computer programming. When I finally did, I ran with it.

Ever since I could remember, I wanted to be a teacher. I'm following the dream now at University.

I've never known, i just go with the flow. Somehow i ended up doing A/V / computer setups for corporations. ?? I've never known what i wanted to do. I just know i learn quickly, and follow the $$ signs.

Right about the time I started my majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I decided I wanted to be a weather forecaster instead of an engineer.

Parents were pissed. Oh well. It's my life. They got over it eventually.

I always changed my goal post of what I wanted to be. But it seems like I am stuff being a software dev now.

I know what I want to do, but it's just a stupid and far fetched dream.

I really want to be a LoL pro. But I'm not good enough. I could be, but that would require me to give up a lot of my free time, which I simply can't afford to do, especially since nothing is guaranteed.
