It's a generic question and it tends to vary wildly but I'd say when a person can sustain themselves (and hopefully others), make solid life choices, has decent social interaction skills, and can put others in front of his or herself.

I ask 'cause I'm 20 and I've been thinking lately, am I a man yet? Physically, yes. But I think the mental and emotional part are much more important.

I'm looking more for a general age when you'd say people hit manhood or womanhood. Years ago I thought I would've considered 20 a man. But I'm realizing despite the fact I'm responsible, there's still more growing to do. I'd say around 23-25 most become men/women.

What do you guys think?

I agree with that. I would say 19 is the age. By 19 they'd probably know what direction they want to take in life, and are on their way to it.

After the substance-abuse phase. :P Which normally is after college..So 22ish.

And if you don't abuse any substances..I'd say 21. You can atleast buy liquor then.

I think it has more to do with personal responsibility. I have read some places that it isn't until a parent dies.

When you become independent of others and can survive in such a way. This includes emotionally, physically and financially. Basically it is the ending of dependence upon parents by a child.

When a sufficient amount of individuals (however arbitrary that value might be, you just have to agree with the presented amount, and it has to agree with itself, in the sense that in a retrospective setting, viewn as empirically as humanly possible, "it" i.e the X amount is at general agreement with it´s own validity*), all in seperate settings, cognitively or incognitively - decide that you are one.

See how easy that was?

When they look for and focus on so many limitations that they give up their wildest dreams, lose the funny and make a big deal out of everything small and fool themselves into thinking they somehow have learned that the norm is the right thing to do, so that they don't have to think anymore.

I think it's different for everyone. I don't necessarily feel like a woman even though I'm technically an adult by law, but I'm sure there are some 18-year-old females out there who are women. Independence is the key factor in this process.

You should have had a 6th choice, which would be 'NEVER' for that is my answer. People are always young at heart, they just don't always show it in public.

If you want to know a real truthful answer, when that person (man or woman) ask the exact question you are asking.

When you realize that you have a question that you can't answer and decide that you are not enough to answer it youself, you ask others for help.

Just because you become a "man" or "woman" doesn't mean you have to do everything on your own. Yes being self-sufficant is good but that is not what makes a man a man or a woman a woman. It's the choices they make when they decide to do something and what they do to accomplish their goal. And my first statement stays true though because everyone is a kid at heart.

Once they fall in love with someone is when they make that change. That's when they know that they can no longer only do what is best for themselves, but that they now have to consider someone else's needs, and if need be, put those needs in front of their own.

Not until somebody loves you, but when you realize that the life of someone else is more important than your own. When we stop being needy children, and when we start to think of others. That's what I was trying to get at.

Technically it's 21 because you have grown an "adult" skeleton by then. You get a new skeleton approximately every 7 years.

I'll rephrase that: Approximately every 7 years, you grow a new, complete skeleton. That's not to say however, that the night when some turns (i.e.) 7-years-old, that person grows a new skeleton. It happens over time I think.

A little googling on some non-so-authoritative sites (so I can't attest to their accuracy) says that none of the tissues in the skeleton of a living human last more than 7 years, so if these sources are trustworthy, I'd say that's a valid interpretation.

I think it's not so much of a sudden change, and more so a gradual occurrence that transpires over a few years, and only occurs when one truly formulates their perception of reality and realizes their place in it.

Sex. Thats when.

But legally, 23. Because thats when your parents cant right you off for tax purposes, include you on their car insurance, and its when you can rent a car. So its usually the age that you have to take complete responibilty for yourself, whether you want to or not.
