So yeah I use Firefox and Chrome and haven't got around to uninstalling IE. I rarely turn my computer off since the boot up time takes to long but today when I turned my laptop on after shutting it off all of my homepages were "isearch.avg.com"

What's the deal here. Demonic posession? Nobody had access to my PC and it was working fine until I turned it off.

Did you download anything recently? Sometimes downloaded programs will change your home page. You should see this site here, it might answer your question.

When you install certain software, sometimes the creators are ass holes and make it so that it also installs their toolbar and homepages.

My laptop frequently installs updates when I turn it on after not turning it off for a long period. Is it possible that firefox or chrome are somehow responsible? I do have alot of programs that I don't use since I was not the 1st owner and maybe one of them updated and somehow installed that?

AVG is an antivirus software, do you have AVG as your computer's antivirus program? if so that is likely the source of your problem, not firefox or chrome. And Robert Muldoon was right, they should all be destroyed.

This thread is an excellent example of genuine, non-sarcastic community feedback. ;)

(*cough* In all seriousness, though, it is a tad bit questionable to expect serious answers when suggesting the proposition that your computer may be possessed by demons, wouldn't you say..? xP

I believe someone already nailed it in the head earlier, though, when they said that some sort of software you may have installed could've overridden your browser's officially selected homepage in favor of the program's own -- if that's not what's causin' it, then I'm not really sure what else it could be, tbh..gotta consult someone else for that.)
