I know, not the most interesting topic on this board, I mean who WANTS to talk about unfair and corrupt standardised tests?

I'm currently a Sophomore, and I haven't started studying for it yet. I hear some people start as soon as 7th grade, which is just rediculous if you ask me. How are you supposed to remember all that on top of what's going in school? Junior year is going to be tough, especially since Pre-Calc is starting, my not so good 3.2 GPA is ****ed. I can't even keep above a C+ in Trigonometry.

So, back to the question, when would be a good time for studying for this?

I highly recommend starting with the PACT. It will show you the format of the test as well as qualify you for some significant recurring scholarships if you score high enough.

I didn't study for the ACT, took it once, and got a 32. Honestly if you pay attention in your classes at school and have good test-taking skills you should be fine. One important thing to remember is that wrong answers don't count against you on the ACT, so if you're almost out of time during a section you should fill in the remaining questions randomly before time is up. The SAT is the opposite, however, and wrong answers deduct points.

I'm a junior, dont bother studying I've already taken 2 practice ACT's and gotten a 27 on both of them. Plus unless you plan on going straight to a huge university from freshman year(waste of time and money imo, I'm going community then transferring over) you don't even really need to worry about your ACT's my lit teacher got a 13 on her's and still got accepted into university of michigan after a year of community just fine. Same story with my mom except replace Michigan with Governor's state(not as impressive but still)

A 13? I didnt even know that was possible unless you just bubbled in random answers the whole time.

Never studied and I still got a decent score. And as someone said, starting at community college and then transferring to a four year university is a good idea unless you're planning on going to medical school afterwards or that kind of thing.

I see a lot of people stating that you can get into universities with a low ACT, which is certainly true. What I found the higher ACT scores to be most useful for is getting into certain programs (like the U of I electrical engineering program, or various honors programs) and for attaining scholarships.

I hated the ACTs. The questions aren't difficult but you're given so little time to answer them it's ridiculous.

As long as you know math at the algebra 2 level, science in terms of physical science plus a little chemistry, have basic knowledge of literacy, and can decipher a story you should be fine. I got a 30 with that knowledge. ACTs do help get scholarships though if you do really well.

I didn't study for the SAT or ACT and I got a 2040 and 27, respectively. I thought that the tests weren't really about knowledge, but on test taking ability. I would only recommend practicing the ACT science portion because it was hardest. Doing anything else would be a waste of time imo.
