Need to upgrade it from my 3g ipod touch

They release a new model every year.
And like clockwork everyone gobbles it up like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
It is worth noting that a new iPhone is usually released between late June and early July. It wasn't this year. It's hard to say if the other iOS devices will follow their usual pattern.Notice any pattern here?

There's still no decent competition for the iPod Touch, which is basically an iPhone without the phone. It's a cheap media player with app functionality. Google's removed the phone clause from Android licensing, but it's taking way too long for anyone to manufacture a decent iPod Touch competitor. The iPod Touch isn't a dedicated MP3 player. It's an iPhone without the phone part. Meaning it can run almost every iPhone app. With he advent of smartphones, full size dedicated MP3 players are going the way of the cassette walkman
That includes the ipod

True, but from what speculation I've heard that was supposed to be due to the recent Verizon iPhone 4 release. Apple might not have released the new version so immediately after the Verizon iPhone launch so as to not leave those customers feeling burned.

Its stillpointless and an unnecessary gadget when you just have a more powerful smartphone already.
An Iphone itself has more horse power under the hood, so no new Ipod will = new iphone
I mean I could maybe understand if you want an android & I device, but thats still a waste of money for most people, and a 2nd gadget to lob around.

Not everyone has or wants a smartphone. Even if they use a cellphone, they may not want to pay for the mandatory data plan. And some people are concerned with the limited battery life being shared among all these different things.[QUOTE="dercoo"][QUOTE="ThePlothole"] The iPod Touch isn't a dedicated MP3 player. Battery life really the same for the ipod touch series, except only the music playback only mode (which would produce good battery life on a smartphone too)
Smartphones have made large mp3 players obsolete.
They're faster, have better hardware, have 3g/4g options, and are often cheaper with a phone contract

The PS Vita for me is looking to be a superior alternative it will have android so you'll get access to apps along with all the media capabilities and superior gaming capabilities due to having actual buttons along with touch controls. I was initially looking to either upgrade my current phone to a highend smartphone or get an ipod touch with a big reason being the apps mainly games but the vita for just $250 is looking to offer a better value. They release a new model every year.

perhaps you could point out a non-smartphone android device that is on-par or better than the ipod touch? Not everyone has or wants a smartphone. You often don't have a choice in the matter. Carriers like AT&T and Verizon will only sell smartphones under contract with a data plan.
Yeah, but the problem is that you're sharing that battery life between your phone and media player. After a few hours of movies and Internet browsing you might not have enough juice to make a phone call. I know I have run into that problem on more than one occasion.
Eh, when it comes to audio quality, the best hardware is still found with some of the dedicated players (not the ipod though).
In Canada, at least, you cannot run an iPhone without having a minimum $1000 a year contract, which completely defeats its initial lower cost. An iPod Touch costs $200-$400, and that's it. There's no monthly fee, no fees of any kind after you've purchased it. No reason to not go with a Touch and a cheap cellphone. You don't need a data plan, as you could always stick with wifi only.

No expensive smartphone plans please. I'd rather keep my cheap go-phone and use a dedicated "mp3 + apps" player instead. Much better option. And yeah, iPod Touch 5 might be released in September if the usual pattern follows.
I got a smartphone, but the battery is nowhere near good enough to use it as a mp3 player in addition to what I use it as today. If the battery capacity was tripled or more + loads more storage space in the one I have then yes.You don't need a data plan, as you could always stick with wifi only.

say what you want, but I love my itouch, and I won't wait around for someone to create a viable android alternative.

I almost totally disagree. I liken the Ipod touch to an ipad that fits in you pocket. In fact, I cannot understand why so many people opt for the smartphone. Why? Because there is a significant monthly charge for using data that one pays on top of everything that one pays for any non-smart-phone. Its like I am paying to receive the data that is sent by my router that I also pay for; I am paying twice over for the same data. IMO it is a big scam. There is a reason the Iphone sells for like 700 bucks (more than an ipad 2) with no contract. I myself have an ipod and a small free phone with no-data plan and couldnt be more satisfied. I love how the ipod 4g is really thin and feels great in my hands.[QUOTE="dercoo"]

There is one already out. The Samsung S player. It has a microSD slot.Looks like you beat me to it.No expensive smartphone plans please. didn't know about the Samsung. Is it out in America yet? Without wifi I don't really count the Cowon as on par. Please Log In to post.
