I just go back to my room and catch some sleep whenever possible if I was not able to get a good night sleep. It happens, and when it does, I try and recover as many hours as possible, or do a power nap.

I fall asleep when I don't get enough sleep naturally, but if you wake me up and I'm still half-asleep I say stupid things out loud.

I act more awake the less sleep I get. If I only sleep five hours, I'll be much more awake and talkative the next day than if I had slept ten hours. I don't know why.

I'l tell you tomorrow morning. I am currently writing a paper (I had work most of the weekend) and I have a calculus exam to study for. Sounds like an all nighter. It won't be my first. I generally get really irritable and lose a considerable degree of eloquence. That and I constantly feel like I am about to go to sleep whenever I rest my head on my hand.

I used to be able to get by without a night's sleep but as I've gotten a bit older I've noticed that I can't seem to function very well without at least a couple hours of sleep. The handful of times that I didn't get any sleep at all I found that I snapped back very quickly with just an hour of sleep (thank the gods for lunchbreaks)

Hey, speaking of sleep, let me tell you something.

You know, I LOOOOOVE sleeping. But the thing is, my love for sleeping far outweighs my NEED to sleep. For example, I absolutely love a long 8-9 hour sleep, but these days it's extremely difficult for me to even get 8-9 hours of sleep. And not because I'm too busy, it's just that my body automatically wakes me up after about 5-7 hours. After that, I'm just lying in bed awake for another hour or two.

And I think that has something to do with what I am going to tell you now. A good long sleep is nice, but the crappy thing about being asleep is that you don't KNOW that you're asleep. It's like, one moment you're getting into bed. The next moment you wake up, but you look at your alarm clock and see that it's really seven hours later. You got a good long night's sleep, but you didn't get to ENJOY it. But suppose you wake up and glance over at your alarm clock and see that you woke up 2 hours early. THAT is pure bliss. Because waking up ALWAYS sucks. But it totally rocks when you wake up, and then say to yourself "wow, I can actually go right back to sleep. ****ing awesome."

That's why these days, I tend to set my alarm clock at least an hour early every single day. If I set my alarm clock for the absolute latest time that I need to be up by, that sucks. Because then I'll be deep asleep, and my alarm will go off. And then I'll have to jump right out of bed.

But if I set my alarm clock an hour early, that ****ing rocks. Firstly, I wake up and hit the snooze button and then look to see what time it is. Then I see that I don't have to be up for another hour. And that's just orgasmic, I'm telling you. I say "ha, I don't have to wake up now." So I go right back to sleep. Then every ten minutes the alarm will go off again, and I keep getting to go right back to sleep. I tell you, it's awesome.

It's also awesome for another reason. It's actually awesome because you you end up getting woken up every 10 minutes, and this gives you a real sense of your sleep time dwindling. So is you wake up an hour and a half early, you go back to sleep deeply. Every ten minutes though, you end up getting woken up. So eventually you're going to wake up and see that you only have another half hour of sleep before you ABSOLUTELY have to get up.

So it's like, once I reach the half hour mark, I start thinking "I still have another half hour of sleep, but I have to be up soon. So I'll just try to lightly fall asleep."

Then 10 minutes later you wake up and see that you only have 20 minutes of sleep. So you think "okay, now I really have to get up soon. I can't really fall asleep very much, I'll just rest my eyes a bit."

Then 10 minutes later you wake up and see that you have to get out of bed in only 10 minutes. So I say to myself "okay, I can't go back to sleep, because I have to get up in only 10 minutes. But I still have 10 minutes before I have to get up, so I'll just lie here for 10 minutes and let my body rest, but I'll stay awake so that my mind stays limber and I can start the day well."

So then I lie down for my final 10 minutes. Then the absolute final alarm goes off and I am like, "okay, now I've got to get out of bed."

But by that time, I'm ready to jump out of bed and get the day started right quickly. Because I've spent the last 90 minutes of my sleep time preparing for the inevitable moment when I will have to get out of bed.

Am I the only one who does this?

Some people drink coffee or sit on the sofa for half an hour watching pointless news on the TV just to allow themselves to wake up properly. But I honestly prefer our method.

I mean, waking up cold turkey is harsh. You've sort of got to mentally prepare for the day. I could start drinking cofee and get addicted to caffeine, I suppose. But If I'm going to have to prepare for the coming day, I'd honestly rather do it while sleeping. See, I LIKE sleeping. I don't particularly like being dependent on caffeine to perk me up, and I don't like sitting around watching TV for half an hour just to get me woken up enough to get me to move my ass and start the day right.

But one thing I can say is that if I ever get a girlfriend, I think that's going to ruin my groove. Because I guarantee that she's going to get pissed off when I let the alarm clock go off repeatedly for the span of an entire hour, every single day.

Works fine for me, but I bet it'd piss her off something fierce.
