When you put your iPod on shuffle, does it play the same artist over and over?

I don't know why, but whenever I put my iPod on shuffle, often it will play many songs by an artist several times, or closely grouped together (like every two or three songs). And it also seems to always play certain songs, it rarely branches off into different songs. It's really weird.

That is weird. There's a setting that allows you to loop artist. Maybe someone else you know who uses it turns that setting on some times. Then when you hit shuffle it only shuffles between that artist.

Far fetched, but I dunno.

The ipod's "shuffle" function isnt particularly random. It's lazy coding on apples part.

Yeah mine does that. I have like 4-5 Limp Bizkit songs that I only listen to when in the mood for it, but shuffle always picks them as one of the first things to play.

that's a very common problem that has to do with programming. basically, programmers have to juggle and balance 2 factors: effectiveness and efficiency. the more simple the code is, the more quickly and more often this problem will occur. the more complex itis, the more truly random songs will be played, but you sacrifice storage space and processor cycles.

Oh, also, don't all iPods have some sort of "smart" system that plays songs that you prefer more often? If you have a thousand songs and a thousand plays, but those thousand plays are only distributed over 20 songs, i think that might be your problem, too.

That could be one thing, or you could be subconsciously noting the times when the song is repeated thus making it seem like it happens often. It's kind of like noticing red traffic lights more. Of course the more songs you have, the less likely it's going to happen.

That's happened to me on occasion.
