Why do people feel the need to place themselves onto a political spectrum that means nothing and only serves to encourage people not to think for themselves?

I'm so tired of people saying things like "I'm a liberal so I supports this," or "I'm a republican so I supports such and such." Lame. I'm also sick of people using words like republican, liberal, conservative, democrat etc. as insults and justifications for an argument. They mean absolutely nothing.

Is labeling ourselves really necessary?

In the US, my ideas are more aligned with Republican conservatives than not, because I believe that we should follow the laws established. If we aren't going to do that, we need to reconstruct the government altogether.

In general though, I'm more in the socialist dictatorship camp.

I should probably go back and look at the questions again because I've always scored in the lower half of the authoritarian/libertarian graph.

Hmm, I got far less authoritarian on this quiz than the poltical compass.
