These facts just show that the world is an unfair place. People are so greedy it makes me sick!

May we all keep in mind that TODAY:

-over 35,000 children will starve to death

-1.3 billion people live in absolute poverty (under $1 a day)

-the average US citizen will consume the same amount as 520 Ethiopians

-the US will use over 43% of the worlds resources with less than 6% of the world's population

-the richest 20% of the world have 83% of the world's stuff

-the poorest 20% of the world have 1.4% of the world's stuff

-358 people own the same assets as 45% of the world's poorest

If you just won 1 million dollars i garentee you that you would waste it all on your self or someone close to you. People are naturaly greedy, its human nature to want more. Nothing is perfect, and we the country along with other country really try to help the needy out (believe it or not) not just the U.S but in Africa, Middle East...ect

I don't like it when people think they should be able to take money from one person and give it to another country. If you want to help these people, then do it with your own money.

Its just scary that we are fooling our own evolution. Its sad to say, but the fact that poorer nations have people dying of starvation and disease is the way its supposed to be in order to make sure that humanity is still at 'peak' performance. However, wealthy countries are tricking death and the natural order.

Example: If a human has badly impacted wisdom teeth, that person should get an infection and die. Eventually, our selection would have us either: 1. No longer have wisdom teeth or 2. Have larger jaws to be able to support an extra row of teeth.

Instead, we have the money and technology to safely remove the teeth. (Silly example, but think of things like Polio, etc.)

This applies to everything. All the things that should have been able to kill us are being "fixed". So eventually, a wealthy country (in this case, the USA) might wind up writing the story of its own demise.

Doesn't change the teaching though. If Christians are happy to deny h0m0sexuals human rights because of passages in the bible with no connection to Jesus then they should surely give their money to charity.

Not really bashing, just showing the painful facts of life. But again, in nature many (50% or more in some species of) animals aren't supposed to even reach adulthood. The fact that we (most americans, europeans, etc) AREN'T starving and dying is the more astounding statistic to me.

So?

Rich people dont have to help poor people. If I was a billionaire I would not feel obliged to donate large amounts of money to the poor, although I still might. You cant tell people what to do with their own money :|

Doesn't have that much relevence anyway. I was just saying that Christians who don't donate money are going against teachings in the bible, not that Christians in general don't donate money.

1) Thought I should back up my information, so:

"In 2000, religious people gave about three and a half times as much as secular people - $2,210 versus $642" - "Charity's Political Divide," The Chronicle of Philanthropy. Nov. 23, 2006.

2) I would say if you are poor and a Christian, you're not recquired to donate anything. But if you can, you should give to charity.

Well obviously if you are in poverty you have no such obligation, but if I was so inclined I could direct you to the story of the widow's mite.

Yeah, it's much better when we have more people that believe something a magic book tells them to than when they follow ideas based on tested and retested experiments and theories (not even saying that's necessarily it!) based on proven facts.

Yep, that's the way it should be.

Exactly. I'm an atheist and me and my family have given hundreds of hours and lord knows how much (maybe a bit ironic that I choose to use this expression for this discussion?) money to charity because PEOPLE NEED HELP, not because I want some guy in a robe to tell me I'm going to paradise after I die.

Maybe a little less money on the War and more money helping the poor. Id say we need to help the people who are living homeless in the US before we go around and help other countries. Fix our own problems first.

If God really is omnibenevolent (and exists), then you deserve to go to paradise a lot more than an awful lot of Christians.

Expand the job market, that will help a lot.
