I was fortunate with mine, it was already properly sized. All you have to do is edit them.

One of my favorite characters from a visual novel 

mine is actually from a youtube video.

since Hollywood Undead came out with a new album and changed their masks, i needed to update mine from the old Johnny 3 Tears mask to the newer one.

was watching their "We Are" music video. found a part that showed his new mask, paused the video then did a print screen. shrunk it down to fit in my avy using photobucket.

Scale and crop with GIMP.

About all you need for making any kind of avatar, really (at least for anyone without Photoshop).

Mine used to fit the box with working transparency and all till they changed the forum up. Have throught about changing it, just haven't had the desire to do so.

I think I'm waiting on the new forums...we were promised them "early next year" last year.

I just took one of the pics from the new Thief game into Photoshop and cropped it to fit the required size limit. If you don't have Photoshop then the others have you covered in that area as well.

Make one. Mine (Pacman) is from a section of my current wallpaper which in turn was a raytracing from POVRAY.

I just did a Google search for thumbnail sized images.

Here you go.

Step 1: find an image or gif you like using a search engine (example photobucket or tumblr)

Step 2: if image is too big then reduce the size of it (can be done using image editing software like Gimp,Photoshop or even Photobucket has image editing software, I use a combination of Gimp and Photobucket)

Step 3: profit

I get all my images from google and just resize them. I haven't used a GS avatar since 2004. 

I make my own, though this forum is the one exception where I use an OG avatar. Too much history with it.
