Hi everyone, I'm trying to apply for my first job (I'm 16) and I've applied in a lot of places but still no luck. Every place (fast food restaurants, retail, etc.) is asking for my previous jobs at other stores, but I'm still trying to get my first job! I have to start somewhere... :P How about you guys, where was your first job, and was it easy to get accepted?

My first job was at the local vocational school. I was leader of a robotics team based out of the school and being that my best friend's father ran the place, I was easily able to work there for several summers while in high school. Since then all of my jobs have been in churches and various jobs at my university.

The first job I got paid to do was bucking hay bales in the summer when I was a sophomore in high school. After graduation, my first 'real job' was working at a screen printing shop making t-shirts. It was a good job. I got to listen to headphones all day and chip away at whatever I had to do with no interruptions.

Cool. When I started there, it was the largest music retailer in the country. Now there are a few FYE's that replaced the still-profitable stores, but it's amazing how such a large company can completely disappear in just a few years. I know how Circuit City employees feel. Also, interestingly, after that I went to work for a local newspaper company that declared bankruptcy just last year. Man, I really know how to pick the healthy industries, don't I? :P

I worked for a company doing demolition (and disposal). Nothing was more fun than going into a warehouse with nothing more than a hammer and screw driver and getting some good ol' fashioned exercise while letting out aggression.

My first job was having a paper route. I had that from when I was 12 to 14. When I was able to get a 'real' job, I first worked at a Hallmark store.

It was either working at a Wendy's or haying for a farmer. I don't remember which was first because I did both that summer. I was 15 at the time.

My first "job" was a coat hanger at some fancy dinner place at age 13-14. I worked for tips, but it wasn't bad at that age. My first real job was an embedded software engineer making/testing home diabetic testing devices.

first job was dishwashing at a small local restaurant when I was 15.

next job was -- dishwashing, at 16 (different restaurant, previous place closed down). in the 6 months I was there I made it up to prep-cook, which was a million times better than DW

then I moved to Florida, and did mortgage/home loan crap (age 17) over the phone, program folded 1 month after I was hired. I was offered the chance to switch buildings and sell magazines over the phone, but decided against it as college started in a month anyways, and I'd be moving 2 hours up the road.

Didn't work through college (was a full time, 40 hour a week at classes alone, with an extra 20+ hours of homework)

post college graduation, I worked as a wax mixer, that ended a couple months back (was a holiday duration job)

waiting on phonecall right now for a VFX job (what I went to college for)

I don't know that you would want my first jobs.

first one was at a worm farm.

Then shoveling stuff at a chicken ranch.

and I finally graduated to doing chores on a farm....which is back breaking labour

Iowa scares me. Just saying, I have driven through that state on my trip between Indiana/Nebraska enough times that I know enough not to stop when within the borders.

Dish washer cause my dad worked there. It was under the table though but I was making 50 bucks in 7 hours.
My first real job with a check and everything was working with concret (Pouring it moving it around leveling it) I had to dig alot to. Very hard work...not worth the 9 dollars an hour I was making. ( I could make 8.50 at mcdonalds just standing around) So I quit.

Busser at an upscale restaurant when I was 16. My family knew the owner, so all I had to do was ask. I now work with gas turbines as an engineer for a massive technology and services corporation. :P

I worked there for 2 summers and by the end of the second summer the first pentiums had come out and i built many of those. I still remember a new guy pressing too hard on a processor and breaking it lol.

I walked with commercials for a whopping 4 months before I got bored. Next was paperboy... Not much difference but a lot easier and better pay. Had that for 10 months. Now I'm working in a store and have done so for 4 years almost.

I'm still at my first job, they hired me because I was 14 at time and was cheap to pay.

Now that I'm almost 16, I might quit. I don't get many shifts these days :(

16....my step-dad got be a job painting machines that the company built. It was ok pay but only and only a few hours after school. It was pretty cool, I learned about paint materials, listened to lots of loud music and got to wear a cool looking space-like suit. Oh yea and the hot milf's that worked in the front office thought I was a cutie.....ah the good ole' days.
