I happened to watch Mystic River this morning, and I didn't see anything noteworthy in Laura Linney's performance. Am I missing something? Now, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, and Marcia Gay Hardin were all excellent, however. And I'm curious: Why Juliette Binoche?Basically which actor and actress do you feel has starred in more memorable movies in the past 12 years than any other?

I think Nicolas Kim Coppola is also an actor that defined the 00s
TheFallenDemon
he really did though - one great film/perfromance (Bad Lieutenant), two very good ones (The Weather Man, Adaptation), a bunch of entertaining stuff, and some of the most hilariously bad films of all time (Next!)

I don't think they really gave Linney much to do in Mystic River compared to all of the other actors in it so while it was a notable film in her career its not really the best showcase for her talent.
But if you look at the rest of her filmography from the 2000's: You Can Count on Me, The Squid and the Whale, The House of Mirth, Kinsey, The Savages etc. You can see why I put her up there.
As for Binoche she has worked with some of the greatest modern directors such as Haneke, Assayas, Hsiao-Hsien, and Kiarostami how could you not put her up there?

I ask because I'm not a film buff. ;) I took a look at her filmography and saw Chocolat and a bunch of movies I've never heard of before. You make a good point about Linney's role in Mystic River. The most I had heard of Linney came from an interview for a USA Today article when her TV Show The Big C first aired, and then forgot about her. I'm not a TV buff, either . . .[QUOTE="DharmaMember77"][QUOTE="Author_Jerry"] I happened to watch Mystic River this morning, and I didn't see anything noteworthy in Laura Linney's performance. Binoche is mostly an international actress (English Patient is probably the most notable american film she was in) so if you're not a film buff the chances of you hearing about her are slim.

Frodo's quest to destroy the ring is the central aspect of the story. Everything and everyone else is auxiliary to that.
Nice tumblr, Laihendi.sammyjenkis898Thank you
Daniel Day Lewis, Sean Penn and Philip Seymour Hoffman come to mind. What's Hoffman doing these days anyhow?thebest31406I've heard his performance as a cult(-ish?) leader in The Master is Oscar-worthy. You can bet he'll at least be nominated.
Quality of acting doesn't determine which role is the lead. The script does.LaihendiThankfully the script didn't make it seem like Frodo was the lead. If you were to pick a lead in the trilogy it would be Aragorn.
Thankfully the script didn't make it seem like Frodo was the lead. If you were to pick a lead in the trilogy it would be Aragorn. Aragorn? Where was Aragorn when the story began in the Shire? Where was Aragorn when the fellowship finally ended with the sailing of Frodo and Gandalf from the Grey Havens? Aragorn was most certainly not the lead role. The story begins and ends in the Shire. Granted it begins with Bilbo and ends with Sam, Frodo is still clearly featured more prominently than either of those characters.[QUOTE="Laihendi"]Quality of acting doesn't determine which role is the lead. I agree that Frodo had the leading role but Aragorn (and maybe Gandalf) wasn' t too far away in terms of importance. Actually the difference in significance of role between those three was pretty small. But even marginally, Frodo was the "main" one.
edit:IMO of course.
What do you mean 'dominated'? Been in the most films? Been in the best films? Made the most money? I'd say the Harry Potter cast. A lot of them were nobodies, or had only had small gigs. Even the seasoned actors who many of the younger generation had never heard of became household names. I don't think anything has been bigger than Harry Potter in the 2000s.
Even Robert Pattinson, he was MADE by Harry Potter. He only ended up in Twilight BECAUSE OF being skyrocketed to fame from his role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
