I'm inbetween the guitar or the drums. On one hand, I think the drums would be easier and I'd be able to vent through them for those darker days.....anywho, they're more expensive and I still can't find space for a kit. On the other hand, the guitar would be harder, less expensive, and easier to store.

I say as a hobby because I have no intention of joining/starting a band.

There's more to bass than just playing chords.

True, but the pieces were too slow and I just didn't feel like continuing

it depends, if you have the room, i'd say go for the drums. I love drums, but my house is too small for a set, so I'm going to get a bass.

I play drums and bass...I'd go for drums...to those of you saying they're boring alone...you're just not creative enough.

I tried guitar for a while...gave that up to play bass...thought it was a lot more fun that guitar...mainly cause its fun to slap...

trust me, DRUMS ARE NOT EASY, that is, if you go on from playing basic, boring, rock drumming.

I'd go with guitar. But you can't find drummers any where so you might want to go with that.

Definately guitar. The first bit it's hard and it hurts, but when you can play, it's awesome.

not easy, but very fun once youve got the coordination. plus, it sets the backbone for the music, and really adds the 'punch' to the main line. king crimson for example has an a amazing drummer.

totally understand, my first kit was five bills, decent kit to learn on, sounded good when tuned. gretsch also makes awesome drums, nice warm and full sound without the pricetag of a pearl kit. i was really digging this gretsch kit but went with the tama cos it was on sale :P

I too play both here is my input:
Guitar is most certainly cheaper I dunno what the guy was talking about in the earlier post.  A good drumset does not cost $500 it costs more like a $1000 because most sets do not inculde cymbols and good cymbols are going to run you $500 (I said good not learner).
Put this way:  If you buy a new yamaha stage custom (just an example) new it does not come with any cymbols.  Average cost of a premium crash cymbol like a k custom or A custom is around $120.  Ride cymbol is around $200 and high hats around $250-300.  Now if you go with budget cymbols your still looking at $300 for the cymbol pack giving you a price at a min of $800 unless you go used.
where as a good electric/ intermediate (and the kit above was intermediate) runs around $500 a good tube amp can be had for around $500.  If your strepped for cash mexican fenders are good and can be had used for $200-300 on ebay, plus a solid state combo amp can be had for around $200 as well.

Having learned both I think they are both challenging in there own, but it is easier to sound like you know what your doing on a guitar where as a drumset if your off time every one knows.  Also one can be learned silently so if thats a factor then I say guitar.

My little brother plays both the drums and guitar. I asked his opinion for you and he said the drums are a lot cooler and rewarding when you pull off your first drum solo. He is 12 years old by the way.

I play Electric Guitar Mostly, which is not a hobby but rather a side career.  I also Play Bass, Drums, Trumpet (Most brass), and some piano
