I'm definitely going with the film industry.

Starting a band, putting out songs, and playing shows seem to be a lot easier than making movies. Indie filmmakers make hardly anything while bands that are not too old are already making money.

The standards are kind of low in both but I will say the film industry would be the hardest to get into.

whatever you love to do is more easier, nothing is really hard to get into, you just have to set your mind on it and think positive. Just keep pushing yourself forward and I suppose you can make anything out of yourself.

Initially, the film industry. But in terms of getting "big", probably music.

I'd say the music industry, but maybe I'm just saying that so my dreams of being an actor don't get crushed. :P

Same goes for movies. At least with a band you can make a living off of it by playing small shows. Making a movie just usually end up on YouTube and nothing else.

Film for sure.

Any jackass can get together some cheap equipment and post their music on the web in a hope to get noticed, go to open mic night at some club, etc.. Also, it only takes one 2:30 single to get out there

Not everyone has the patience to sit through a film or even give you the chance

The music industry is like a hit and miss.

(insert name of a kid whom I won't mention) is a fad right now just because he posted his music online and some corporation got interested in it.

Film, on the other hand, is harder. You need to find the right audience.

Music can be experienced passively so the standards are lower. Film demands more attention so the standards are higher.

Movie Industry would be harder, just look at the ammount of successful nontallented "musicians" that are on the radio. Then try to find 10 successful terrible actors

Film is harder because you actually have to go get a job and aren't as many positions as one may think. The music industry you can get into yourself.

I'd say both are the same. Most people get into those industries because they know people who are alreadywithin. Every now and and again someone might cross their path and gain their interest simply because they are starving for some fresh talent.

In either case, if you like what you do and you're happy making less money than a McDonald's cashier, go for it.

everything is hard to get good in. Heck hardest I'd say is studio art, but that's considered niche now a days. but personally I think that hardest would be book / writing industry. It takes a lot of thought and work to write a bestseller. You could say that everyone has a chance but you also have to remember how many books are published every year. and how many of those break even five thosand sales.

Bands don't make as much as people think but that's beside the point. The film industry is definitly harder. If I want to become a mainstream music superstar all I have to do is sing about love or dress slutty and sing about being a slut.

Make a living? Yeah right. It's impossible making a living off a band in the beginning. It's also very hard getting to the top and actually staying there for more than a week. I'd say music is harder.

If you're one of the lucky ones. Most musicians get around30-50 dollars a night doing "gigs" at bars and clubs. Aside from the work not being consistent, you'd make more than 50 just from working an 8-hour shift at McDonald's. For every Drake, Taylor Swift, and Brad Paisley, there are millions of wannabes who will never do more than local gigs for crappy pay.

If you honestly think music is the harder business to get into, think about it again. Independent filmmakers make hardly anything, if anything at all. When you're in a band, you'll be at least making something. Putting out a successful film is definitely harder than putting out a successful record.

There are "unknown bands" still earning money off of their music. They might need second jobs and they might not be rock stars, but they're making music for a net profit, even while being "unknown".

By contrast, I'd wager that it generally costs a lot more money just to make a movie, thus limiting the potential for profitability when making independent movies. Now...a hell lot of people are amateur "filmmakers" who are making "movies" and then posting them on youtube, but I'll wager that the vast majority of people doing that aren't actually making any money whatsoever. At least the local crappy cover band gets paid a couple hundred bucks to play at a smelly bar.

That's not true at all. Most small bands make just a few hundred dollars a show, and only play at MOST once a week. Split between several people, and it's next to nothing. You can't really live off that. Buy dollar menu food and live out of a van though, sure. With movies, you can always market your film at an indie festival.

The problem is that it costs so much to make a 'good' movie so it's next to impossible for a random person to learn it. Most indie films generally make several thousand to hundreds of thousands of dollars though, so the money is a lot better than in music.

Although if you consider Youtube videos to be film, then yeah I guess it's comparable. But there's a lot of musicians who do the same thing.

You're clearly clueless as to how the film industry works. Read the comments above yours.
