I hated the fifth element and I thought heat was the worst of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
I thought Gladiator, along with a few other movies, gave the new decade an amazing start, and set the bar high for other movies to come.
I have never heard of the movie "Heat" therefore it must be worse than Fifth.DavidDisorder
What a wonderful logic you have.
Fifth Element was sort of fun, but it was really simple dumb fun. Great popcorn movie and nothing else. And also Fifth Element loses points just for Chris Tucker. I've got nothing against Chris Tucker when serious directors get their hands on him (see Chris Tucker in Dead Presidents). But as a comedic actor, he's ****ing annoying. And whose goddamn idea was it to take Chris Tucker at his most annoying and flamboyant, and then amplify that 1000 times by making him some sort of butthead superstar drag queen. Ugh.
Anyway, Gladiator was also sort of fun, but way too heavily overstylized. Remember when Ridley Scott used to do subtle movies like Alien? With all of the sepia toning, music video style filming and shaky-cam combined with slow motion, I could have sworn I was watching a TONY Scott film. What the hell happened to Ridley these days?
My vote goes to Heat. That movie was all class, and didn't have to rely on gimmicks. Great directing, great acting, great story, and it didn't look like something that came from ****ing MTV.
Indeed. I doubt he's heard of The Decalogue, so it must be worse than every movie he's aware of!What a wonderful logic you have.

Heat > Gladiator > The Fifth Element.
Well I really like all those films for different reasons but overall I would say Heat then Gladiator then Fifth Element. Although it does seem odd to throw The Fifth Element in with those two films. It would be like asking me to compare Wall-E with The French Connection as they are films striving for very different things using very different approaches.
[QUOTE="McJugga"]....Heat was the worst of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro?....you clearly havent seen many of there other films, especially Righteous KillI hated the fifth element and I thought heat was the worst of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.

Well not the worst... But I thought it was pretty awful compared to their other films. And no, I haven't seen Righteous Kill. I saw half of it ;)
For me it's Heat > Gladiator > 5th Element
But I don't find either movie to be that amazing. Heat is great, but not as good as Mann's other films. Gladiator was also good, but personally I thought that the writing wasn't that good as well as the character development. Also they really got their stuff wrong about Commodous. (The real one was actually a great Roman emperor). 5th Element is just decent. No more no less.
I also want to say that Traffic was robbed in 2000 when Gladiator won BP.
