I haven't been to the movies in a while, last movie I saw was The Revenant (I think), I really liked it. Anyhow, had my eyes on seeing one of these three films.

  • The Witch
  • Deadpool
  • 10 Cloverfield Lane

Anybody see these? Are they any good? Which should I see?

Really depends on what you're in the mood for. Don't know much about Witch, but I've seen Deadpool and just saw 10 Cloverfield Lane. If you're wanting a somewhat vulgar comedy that pokes fun of superhero/comic cliches (while also falling for some here and there) then you should go see Deadpool. You'll probably laugh at the absurdity of it if vulgar jokes don't strike your funny bone. It's overall a pretty great movie, but over does the whole "look at us we're different!" 10 Cloverfield Lane is much more suspenseful and yet so refreshing. The plot is really good, ALL of the characters are likable and I just love the premise/setting, just about everything there is to it.

@skelly34: that's reassuring, I was kind of leaning that direction

I can testify The Witch is an excellent horror movie, something refreshingly different, and the final scene gives me nightmares, which means it left a stamp on me. The strong 17th century British accent may be a bit hard to follow at times. This movie won independent film awards. VERY creepy! Probably more creepy than scary, but it works well. I would see this a 2nd time on the big screen. Well made by a freshman director on a limited budget

8.5 / 10

Deadpool also is very good, but it might not be what you expect....much of the movies humor is in the preview. Still, a good movie, and worth seeing, especially for Marvel X-men fans. 8.0 / 10

I haven't seen Cloverfield, but it's next on my list. All indications are it's up my alley.

See The Witch first, it's only going to be around a limited time longer, as it's already beginning to end it's run at theatres. Good movie for Big screen. Deadpool is worth seeing, but it should still be playing awhile, and you don't have to see it on the big screen.

Funny you mention those 3 movies, those are movies I had narrowed my hard-earned money for. I will see Cloverfield next week.

Actually seen all 3. Of the 3, my fav is probably Deadpool. Just an incredibly fun movie experience. Had me laughing the entire time!

The Witch was good albeit a bit disappointing. It has good atmosphere and is fairly creepy, but it is also fairly slow and it never truly "scared" me. It is just a bit off-putting.

10 Cloverfield Lane was surprisingly interesting and is one of the more unique and interesting movies I have seen. It is a bit slow like The Witch, but John Goodman's performance really does a lot to pull you in. He is VERY unnerving and delivered an awesome performance. The movie definitely had me really curious as to what would happen next rhroughout and did a decent job of keeping you guessing.

I didn't mind what they did in the ending, I just didn't think the final delivery was all that strong or eventful.

In other words, it's not even related to the first Cloverfield in any way?

I'd see the Witch because I like period pieces or Cloverfield. I'm burned out on "superhero" movies.

Not unless they stretch the plot in a sequel to connect them, I'm not seeing it. Then again, maybe there's Easter Eggs in there that I didn't notice. But I'm sure people are trying to connecting the dots already. Actually now that I mention it that might be interesting to search around for, some movie theory forums to see if people are already doing that. Maybe get some mileage out of this film yet =P

It is Cloverfield related I do believe. It just kind of expands on what is going on and actually kind of gives more background as to where the Cloverfield creature came from.

If you saw the original movie, you can immediately figure out what is really going on outside.

@LostProphetFLCL: so what exactly

the monster from the first movie is a kind of biological weapon from an advanced alien race sent out to wreak havoc on human civilization? I never gave the origins of the monster of the first movie any thought, just figured it was some subterranean mutant came up out of the sea or something.

I'd like to add this though, I'd be perfectly fine with 10 Cloverfield Lane if they made a timely sequel to it. However, it took them 8 years since the first movie to release a follow up that's only connected to that first film by some weak affiliation, most notably in name and throuh Bad Robot / J.J. Abrams. But if it takes another 8 years for them to come up with a sequel to this I'm gonna be pretty sore about it.

Also worth noting though, I'm not trying to hate on this movie. But, as I was watching it I kept thinking how 10 Cloverfield Lane is soooo much better than that overrated movie "Room" that was up for multiple Acadamy Awards, so there's that going for it.

Yup. There is a funny thing in that I feel the movie basically confirms that Goodman's character was pretty dead on for the most part. The Cloverfield monster from the first movie was the "major attack on civilian populace" While the things we see at the end of the movie are the "clean-up crew" that are sweeping for any people who survived the major attacks. Even better, we actually SEE them use a biological gas weapon at one point. He was just off on the idea that it was a gas based attack that made the environment uninhabitable for people. Instead it was simple brute force that was used to attack the major populous centers.

I don't think the first movie did anything to point at where the monster had came from. It was kind of a point of the movie though (even if it wasn't a very good movie). You were supposed to basically be put in the shoes of civilians caught in the midst of a giant monster attack. They won't have any insight as to where the creature came from. They won't even care though in the moment. It was more important to try and get to safety first, then you can worry about asking those questions.

I was hoping it would be good, but surprised to hear someone favor it over Deadpool.

Good to know!

OK now I've seen all 3:

1. 10 Cloverfield Lane = 9.0 / 10 (takes quite a turn after about 85% of the movie has run, Goodman is great, as is the sexy, resourceful woman)

2. The Witch = 8.5 / 10 (quite a refreshing, well-made, creepy horror movie but may not appeal to all...but worth seeing)

3. Deadpool = 8.0 / 10 ( a different sort of hero who speaks to the audience, the funny parts in this movie are mostly in preview, X-men tie-in)

My conclusion? All 3 are worth seeing.

No, not this movies. If you want understand the real system in this world, you should see "Prison Break" and you will understand the inside jobs like DSK, 11 september, attacks in Paris.
