Not just best in a tecnical way. That means don't just pick avatar:P Think more of unique visuals.

1. Avatar- Okay It may not be a great film imo, but my god it is amazing to look at.

2. The Imaginarium of doctor Parnassus- I just watched this and I can't decide if I love it or not. It is very odd, and like all Gilliam films has a theme of reality vs imagination. However the visuals were superb, much more consistant than the visually iffy Brothers grimm. I will watch this film again though because I think I might be one of the best films of the year.

3. The Road- No other film this year has managed to be this bleak and depressing yet oddly beautiful at the same time.

4. Fantastic mr. fox- What an odd animation technique. At times it looks almost like a flat side scrolling plain. Yet the visuals of the animals and the enviroment is fantastic. Very unique.

5. Coraline

6. Mary and max- A very bleak film with even bleaker visuals that really made the film stand out.

7. Inglorious basterds- I love how this film was shot, i cant describe why it just looks really good visually.

8. Bright star- Visual poetry.

9. 9- Very unique look for an animation film. Shame the film kinda sucks.

10. Nine- How confusing, a film called 9 and another called nine. This film looks very extravagent but it is not great either.

11. Where the wild things are- I loved how the wild things looked, and the design of the big fort made of sticks.

12. The lovely bones- Looks fantastic, very lovely to look at. Shame the film sucks.

13. Ink

14. Broken Embraces

15. The White ribbon- The black and white looks great.

16. Yesterday was a lie- Very cool black and white noir visuals.

17. Disney's a christmas carol- While the faces dont show emotion very well, the film looks really great. Shame it isnt very good.

18. Princess and the frog- Not a great film, but it brings back the classic look that disney lacked for years.

19. Ponyp

20. Moon

Besides the ones you mentioned, I would add District 9. For the budget it had, it looked incredible.

i love the way they designed the prawns. Really made them stand out from most alien films. I think they looked more interesting than the Navi in Avatar. The Navi may have looked better tecnically, but the prawns had a better design.

I thought so too, which is weird because Pixar are good with design usually. I liked Up, but nothing about it visually really stood out much.

I think it is his best film next to Royal Tenenbaums, but the humor might be hit and miss for some. I loved it personally, had some great lines. Also Wilem Dafoe voices a rat and I doubt you will know it's him.

Yeah, it's definitely worth it. It actually relies on it's type of animation for it's humor - and it works brilliantly.

Who was your favorite character? I loved Ash, and Kristofferson. The part with Ask making Kristofferson sleep under the train set was one of the best and sweetest moments of the film. That part really made me smile for some reason. Rat was good too, but I didnt recognize Wilem Dafoe's voice. He should do more voice acting, he is great at it.

Tough call. I liked them all. I really liked Mr. Fox himself. I loved the farmers. I loved the part when they were sitting in the trailer and the one farmer just tears up the place. :P

I loved how they chose Michael Gambon to voice Bean. He was the perfect choice, fantastic actor. You should see him in The Cook, The thief, His wife, and her lover. One of the best dark comedies ever. Its funny I showed fantastic mr fox to my parents because they both loved royal tenenbaums, but they didnt laugh once. It was almost awkward to watch because I only heard one or two chuckles. I still loved it though so I didnt mind so much:P

Shame the plot wasnt so good and the characters were all really bad. It had such potential too. You are right about the visuals though, they were fantastic. Very unique. I did like the spirituality element with the souls part, but it felt very underdeveloped.

Meh, I'm kind of a trekie, had to see it opening day lol. As a fan of the series and universe, I thought it did a great job of bringing the series to people who would normally shun anything Star Trek related as "Geek" territory. JJ Abrams did a great job IMO.

He is a governer in the music branch. He hasn't done music to a big film for years, but he did Tombstone, Silverado, Monster squad, So I married an axe murderer. He also did the tiny toons adventures theme. I cant actually remember the last time he worked on anything.

Oh he does, he just prefers if he knows what films he got sent first before I watch them with or without him. So I usually take one, watch it then tell him I took it:P I never tear open his mail though, I ask then open. We got sent Crazy Heart today, hopefully that will be good.

For me it'd be between what I've seen of Avatar, District 9, and 2012. 2012 had by the far some of the coolest mass destruction I've ever seen in a disaster movie and the aliens in District 9 were very realistic.

Overall?

Avatar without a doubt. Next level CGI right there.

Although as mentioned above, I thought District 9's aliens looked cooler.

Ponyo was beautiful, especially when the town gets washed away by the ocean and all the ancient fish begin making it their habitat.
