I like Alice In Chains from there the best.

STP is going borderline alt. Alice, Soundgarden, and PJ win in a tie. Nirvana sucks hard.MetallicaKingsSTP's first two albums were grunge.
Soundgarden is the best, imo. More talented than all the others.Engrish_MajorEarly Soundgarden, yes. But Superunknown and beyond...Not so much.
For me its a tough call, I like all of those bands (except for STP) but my vote will probably go to Pearl Jam. Ten, VS, Vitalogy, Yield and even No Code, all of them were excellent. Alice In Chains were fantastic as well but I think they were too short lived, same goes to Nirvana who imo has the best grunge album of all time, In Utero.
Im surprised Alice in Chains is mentioned so much, years ago it seemed that they have been forgotten, I guess with the new album they attracted some new fans.:P

Different people have different taste in music, you know. :wink:Soundgarden by far, then Alice in chains. There are some other Grunge bands I like that are not on the list though, like these guys below.
Mother Love Bone
Screaming trees
Mudhoney
Tad
Green River
Candlebox
Jesus Lizard- I dont know if they count though
Urge Overkill
Soul Asylum
Silverchair
Collective Soul
Mad Season
Everclear
Melvins
Toadies
Hole- Courtney Love may be a tad odd these days but Hole used to be ok.
Malfunkshun
Overall though Brit Pop was a much better scene in the 90s, so was Prog Revival and Shoegaze.
Nirvana gets my vote because i dont usually listen to this type of music and i never herd of the other bands before. but its nice to listen to something different then hip hop

Whats wrong with Superunknown? Sure it wasnt there best but I dont see what was bad about it. I think their best album is Louder than Love personally.

Alice In Chains by far. Pearl Jam come in as second, then Soundgarden, then STP...and Nirvana come in a very distant last.

I disagree completely. It is strange but Soundgarden are at their best when they act like themselves, when they don't try to be different and allow the music to go easily and flow in with Cornells very spiritual and powerful vocals, thats why their best work was before Superunknown. It honestly seemed to contstricted and too "manicured" but by all means its not a bad album. Badmotorfinger is by far their best album, its just Soundgarden, naked exposed, and all out grunge furry.Silverchair is not grunge my friend. And the shoegaze scene was more 80's than 90's. But I agree that the other grunge bands are just as talented. And you forgot Temple of the Dog. :PSoundgarden by far, then Alice in chains. And I really liked Hole, despite Cortney being crazy she is a great singer, and Live through this, and CS are both great albums.
If Alice in Chains were actually grunge, then they would be a very easy pick. But as for true "grunge" I'd have to go with either Mudhoney or Green River. With Soundgarden in 2nd.

I HATE (well maybe not hate) better yet, Strongly DISLIKE brit-pop. Whether it be 80's or 90s i really do not enjoy it. Not to offend you or anyone but to me, its a very tacky scene.*edit*
Forgot to mention about the Shoegaze comment, their wasn't a lot of true shoegazing bands in the 90's, let a lone ones that really did it well. And no matter what band it is, no shoegaze band can top Sonic Youth. They are probably the kings of that genre.
Alice in Chains are diverse however, they are more grunge than Pearl Jam, so they difinitely fit. :PIf Alice in Chains were actually grunge, then they would be a very easy pick. But as for true "grunge" I'd have to go with either Mudhoney or Green River. With Soundgarden in 2nd.

I find that a lot of Pearl Jam albums take time for me to appreciate. But once I appreciate them, they're awesome. For example, when Binaural came out, I wasn't very fond of it. Went back and listened to it a few months ago, and I thought it was kickass. Right now I'd probably rank it as one of my top 5 favorite Pearl Jam albums.
I still haven't warmed up that much to "Riot Act" or "Pearl Jam" yet, though.
And I liked "Backspacer" a lot when I first heard it, but I'm liking that one less the more I listen to it.
