Well fellow OT dwellers i'm sick and bored and just been watching both movie series and i'd like to know which series you think has better characters,

You know the ones that really stick with you and make you genuinely care about wether you dont want to see them struck by a sword or you want to see them hit by the killing curse.

Which series has the better characters?

My personal opinion is Lord of The Rings just because of the sheer bravery and hardiness displayed by the Fellowship and every1 else.

Lord of the Rings. Harry Potter is one of my favorite series, but the characters weren't exactly "deep" in most aspects...

Lord of the Rings blows Harry Potter out of the water. Harry Potter is basically a kid's book, while Lord of the Ring's is written more for a younger teenager.

The Lord of the Rings is a modern (well now old:P) epic in the same level as Odesey.

And its characters are equally epic

Though I ***** hate how the movies changed Faramir

so the Rings get it

I'm going to say Harry Potter, simply because that I feel while Lord of the Rings lays out a wonderful world, and tells a powerful story, as far as actually reading it goes, it's about as entertaining and engaging as a history text-book.

Easily Lord of the Rings. I'm pretty surprised you'd even try to compare the two for character quality.

I like the HP books more than the LoTR books so I guess I care more about the HP characters, the LoTR movies are actually very good and epic but the HP movies, the last 4 particulalry, were not good.

That's like comparing Homer's Odyssey to a nursery rhyme. Certainly the latter has its use but is nothing in comparison to a classic epic. Lord of the Rings wins in every department, characters included, except in the department of which is easiest to read.

I'm not going to sit here and insult Potter... read all the books, enjoyed it thoroughly. But LOTR is one of the great literary works (IMO) of the 20th century. Harry Potter is just not in that class. Great conceptualizing, but not great literature, decent but not great writing, like most genre fiction.

This

Lord of the Rings is in a different league, Harry Potter is aimed at young children.

I haven't read books of either series, so my opinion is based on the films only. I connected with the LotR characters more. The HP movies weren't bad, but in every movie I always feel like they are not telling me something about the characters which they should.

Actually only the first couple books were aimed at children. Nonetheless...I'd pick LoTR.

Lord of the Rings has better main characters, but the supporting ones don't stick out at all.Harry Potter's main characters (referring to the trio)suck, and it's the supporting ones that make it interesting.

Lord of the Rings. Not that I think Lord of the Rings has fantastic characters, but the only ones I even like in Harry Potter are Neville and Snape.
