Poll Which states are better to live in, OT? (14 votes)

the first group 50%
the second group 50%

-California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey,

New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Washington DC, New Mexico,

-Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana,

Mississippi, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Dakota, North Carolina,

Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Kentucky,

Wyoming, Wisconsin, West Virginia,

Obviously the second group of states is far superior to the first in standard of living and quality of life.

Right, OT?

I choose not to go by groups.

Nevada - I loved the Lake Tahoe-Carson City-Fallon area. My hometurf.

New York - I loved it anywhere along the Lake Ontario coastline. NYC? (BLEH)

Mississippi - I hated it anywhere, even the Gulfport area

Illinois - Champaign, U of I, Fighting Illini.....parteeeeey!

Idaho - lived at Mountain Home. Loved it. Nice fishing along the Snake River

California - lived at Marysville (BARF), lived at Santa Barbara (YAAAAY!)

Florida - Miami and the Panhandle sucked. Titusville was nice. Key West was okay. Saw my first public girl on girl action there.

@Iszdope:

Colorado is probably the best choice overall.

"Obviously the second group of states is far superior to the first in standard of living and quality of life."

As someone who has lived in Louisiana my whole life, the second group should automatically be disqualified by having my state included. Louisiana is like if Dementors were a state. And I'm pretty sure we are in the worst 5 or 10 for both standard of living and quality of life, so it probably brings that whole group score down.

I hope to one day be able to escape this hellish state and my Jincan-like family.

Any where on the West coast, no more south than Santa Barbara, though. So Central California and north (Oregon, Washington)

Is this a Democrat vs Republican thing? Why did you group the swing states with GOP?

I like Rhode Island, New Mexico and (Western) New York the best from the first group. I like Nevada, Florida, Tennessee, and Utah the best from the second group. I don't care much about the state politics (if that's what you're getting at) of either group.

MA resident here, only lived here, though I've visited numerous other states, and I've been in CA the longest. I find CA to be better than MA.

Though what about Wyoming possibly being the best state? Well, I know its the least populated, except for maybe Alaska, unsure if Alaska actually has more people currently now or not.

People get paid to live in Alaska. Mainly a ~$1K check a year. Pocket change, really. But, I'd take it.

Kinda like the hush money Japan gives out every year so locals don't demonstrate against the nuclear reactor near their city.

That choice is basically North vs. South. I am from Texas. And the pros(low cost of living, southern hospitality, great comfort food) outweigh the cons(perpetual conservative and Republican, prejudiced) so I choose the second group.

Is that all it takes? People are easily bought then...

If done right, they are quite safe. Though radiation is difficult to understand in biological way sort of speak.

Edit: To answer TC's question. Without no experience what so ever. I think I would prefer the first group.

In Alaska, it's the oil hush money instead of the nuclear hush money (in Japan). Still, there are a lot of people who do like Alaska even without the hush money.

I've only lived in Indiana and Michigan and they both had different things going for them.

Michigan had more outdoor activities and a better professional sports scene, but the winters were somewhat brutal and the economic conditions, today especially, are miserable.

Indiana, especially the Indianapolis area, is much better off economically. The city I live in, Carmel, is one of the best small cities in the nation.
