I'm sure if they wanted to, the govt could literally find everything about your personal life, from the time you get up in the morning. But I don't see any reason why they would need to know that information about me, I'm not really a troublemaker.

Duh! I been knew they were watching me--I don't get undressed in front of these things for nothing. But if they're going to listen to my phone calls, then they could atleast call me to say "Hi" every once in a while--if I have to be the center of their world.

No. Why would they be interested in a 14 year old from the Midwest? Unless they needed to (which, if they did, could find out absolutely everything about you), there's no logic in monitoring the majority of the population.

Do you really think the NSA is monitoring your phone calls?

"Dude, what's going on man?"

"Not much dude, whacha up to?"

"Not much man, how bout you?"

"Not much, dude"

I'm sure the NSA loves listening in to those conversations and the wealth of information they provide.

that conversation could be about anything. ppl speak in code u know. and it would only take 8 exobytes of memory to store everything ever said, written, or drawn in the history of humanity. it would be very naive to think there isnt a monitoring system. even if its simple keywords that the software uses to pick up on whats nothing and whats something

How many people work at NSA? A few thousand at most? And there are 300 million americans? And all of the dangerous or suspected people in other countries that they are watching? Why would they care about you?

They don't have the manpower to spy on joe schmoe. I wouldn't be surprised if they have programs that analyze messages/emails etc on the internet, picking out key words. Or programs that hunt down phrases and keywords in phone calls.

If they specifically targeted someone, then sure, they could probably do a lot to monitor you.

I'm not talking about the NSA. I'm talking about.. them..

No but seriously, I'm just generalizing whatever intelligence agencies/investigative bodies there are out there. I really doubt that this type of technology doesn't exist.

They search out keywords in email and they listen to some specific people's phone conversations but they don't monitor the entire public. The entire government doesn't have the manpower for such an undertaking, let alone the NSA. You sound like a paranoid 14 year old.

Well I'm beginning to wonder now that the White House is getting people's email addresses that never sent an email there in their lives.

I realize that, but this isn't exactly far fetched technology. Certainly you couldn't monitor the globe, but the technology without a doubt exists.

I read an article in the UK times awhile ago. The government was discussing implementing a system that would allow them to record phone calls and check these calls for keywords.

I think it was Obama who admitted that the technology exists, but that it was illegal to listen in on citizens of the United States without presidential mandate.

I read another article a while back that was written by a US Navy Cryptologist. He said that it's not only possible, but that the NSA does monitor some phonecalls. Again, not of average joes, but of those who may be considered "a threat to national security".

It's rediculous to believe that the technology is impossible, but it's just as rediculous to believe that people like you and me are being monitored. It's even more rediculous to believe that they could monitor an entire country, there's just way too much traffic.

Manpower is more the issue. And the interest. If you spend time listening to everyone then you miss watching the threats.
