[QUOTE="AcidJiles"][QUOTE="xaos"]From Encyclopedia Dramatica's article on the subject: As Fad Since its introduction into the public knowledge, Asperger's has become somewhat of a fad for those seeking to garner attention unto themselves. In the fine, hallowed tradition of disease whores everywhere, many of today's youth take it on themselves to relay their slight feelings of eccentricity, difference, shyness or other inadequacies to discover, minus the aid of a qualified MD, that they are victims of Aspberger's. Encyclopedia Dramatica. That site was made from a couple of guys from /b/ or something. Mostly everything has to do with fads and stuff on /b/. Everything thing on there is a joke. Trust me, check it out if don't believe me. Everything is made fun of.

you do know thats an aspergers trait? not getting when someone is using sarcasm or jokingI have it, and yes, that is a trait. I think that everyone is either being serious or sarcastic, no exceptions.
You know, you get to a point where you keep segregating, and deliniating all these degrees of mental disorder...at some point of another you're just going to start making stuff up for every little kind of eccentricity.
I'm not saying aspergers doesn't exist - it's clearly a well defined mental state. I just wonder at what point we'll come up with a medical disease for "being kind of a weirdo".

 That's great!
I personally only suffer from the higher intellectual capacity. I don't have any other of those symptoms. :)
I don't think this should be classified as a disease. I mean c'mon...a guy could just be shy and not given a fair chance by people...where is the line between shyness and "aspergers?"

Not being able to go through the cleaner isle because of the smell, going mad over the sound of an engine (even if it's a lawnmower), not being able to fully comprehend the danger of certain situations, slurred speech, poor motor skills, having behaviors similar to OCD, and others.
Which are all the symptoms I have. Read up on it before coming to a conclusion.
No, I don't suffer from this.
And shyness is being a bit shy.

I've read extensively about this.
Anyone could dislike the smell of cleaners.
The sound of loud engines (especially those loud ones used for cutting down weeds) can get on anyone's nerve
The third, fourth, and fifth are unique yeah. Still, a lot of the symptoms are things everyday people have. I think it would be better if we didn't classify everything because of the stigmatization society puts on people. Another example is depression. If I'm depressed, why is that different? Why is that a disease? Millions of people suffer from depression, shouldn't it be normal then?

Anyway, I agree that there's plenty of falsely reported cases of Aspergers due to the vauge description of symptoms. I'm one of the people that actually have it (which might be a minority in this situation). And just to point it out, Aspergers is a mental illness, not a disease.

I believe what defines Aspergers is an intense interest in a niche category. I know I have it.
No, but I once read a book narrated by a boy with Aspergers syndrome. Good book ('the curious incident of the dog in the night time')zepman71
omg I've read that too! :o gd book.
no I don't have aspergers. *sigh*
I have, and if you want to see her again you must pay me....ONE BILLION DOLLARS!Apollo5000

Aspergers doesn't show as much on the Internet as it does in real life. Whenever I discuss the topic, Organization XIII music will play in my head...

You are incorrect; Asperger's self-diagnosis is the new black :(Reading about this reminds of the South Park where Randy thinks he's dying from Alcoholism "disease".

Just wondering how many people here are in the autistic spectrum. I personally have mild aspergers Definition: Asperger's syndrome (AS), is a pervasive developmental disorder commonly referred to as a form of "high-functioning" autism. Individuals with Asperger's are considered to have a higher intellectual capacity while suffering from a lower social capacity. The term "Asperger's syndrome" was coined by Lorna Wing in a 1981 medical paper. She named it after Hans Asperger, an Austrian psychiatrist and pediatrician whose work was not internationally recognized until the 1990s. more info is here http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=212AcidJiles
there you go :P and no im not autistic
