You're damn right I'm going to see it. The visuals are supposed to be absolutely phenomenal. When James Cameron contacted ILM about making this movie, he said that he wanted the 3D shots to look like they had been shot with a film camera. He wanted the 3D to look real.
They showed off something like 50 minutes of the movie in Paris. The film critics and members of the media who saw it said that it more or less accomplished this. I can't remember the exact quotes, but from memory they said something along these lines. King Kong, Smeagol, and The Hulk look like jokes compared to the 3D creatures in Avatar. Another said that Avatar makes all the movies that have come out before it look like Tron. Another said that this was the first time in his life that he had ever felt like he was looking at real life forms, and that the eyes were absolutely filled with life. The last one said that he quickly forgot that he was looking at 3D characters and environments, and that Avatar was a revolution in visual effects.
Cameron made Aliens, Terminator, and The Titanic, so you know that he can direct a good film. I think it's going to be great!
