Not sure if many people have heard about it but Earth hour is on March 29th (http://www.wwf.ca/EarthHour/ , http://www.earthhour.org/ ) Its supported by the World Widelife Federation, and basically you shut off your lights for an hour. Seems like its been getting a lot of press, and seems like a worth wild event.

I remember when the Toronto Area (and many others around us) was in a day without power, its was so surreal to see everything completely dark, and to see the night sky. It was also fun to do whatever you wanted because nobody could really see:D

Just wondering who's supporting this event? or have heard of it

Now how great would it be if everyone's lights where off and you rented some skyscraper in the middle of the city and turned on a bunch of disco balls and big spotlights. Oh yeah you'd also have to blare music really loud.

Don't rolling blackouts accomplish the same thing?

Ignorant post. Why bath? you will just get dirty again? Or why help save a dying person, thousands of people die each second. If nobody recycled we would all be pretty screwed, luckly some people do, even if others don't.

But anyway, last year all the energy that was saved was equal to 47,000 cars being off the road. Which is pretty excellent because it was only held in Australia!

Edit: heh I guess rolling blackouts do the same... but this will be 5 different countries doing one huge blackout. McDonalds, Coke-a-Cola, HBC and many other billion dollar business will be praticipating

I consume lots of electricity. No way I'm going to shut down my computers and turn off my lights and TVs and refridgerators and umpteen bazillion other things plugged into the electrical sockets in my house. Hell, I might even drag out my MIG and do some welding that day.

You don't have to turn off everything, just your lights.

This problem runs much deeper than rolling blackouts, recycling or fuel efficient cars will account for. Solving the global pollution, extinction, overpopulation and energy crises is going to require a massive shift in the way we perceive the world. We can no longer act like the world was put here just for us to conquer.

Agreed, this is a small start. It gets major companies and cities together. Which is a huge step.
