Carlin, Pryor and Chappelle come to mind. Let's narrow it down. George Carlin can sometimes be confusing and he swears like he's the only one who can say those 7 words on television, so he's crossed out. Now it's down to Richard Pryor and Dave Chappelle. Richard Pryor passed the torch on to Dave, so Dave Chappelle wins.

I can't help myself, the mere mention of his name and I spiral into angry mode. He just comes off as simple minded to me.
This is really hard for me to pick the best because trully each one is unique and tallented at a certain type of comedy, but if I had to pick one to represent the bets comedian of all time I would say Johnny Carson
Depends on the type of humor. When it comes to observational humor, George Carlin takes the cake. "Have you ever seen someone taking a Sh@# while running at full speed" or "have you ever seen a bum with Gatorade"? Race humor would go to Pryor with chappele being a near second. Hicks, Mencia, and Cook are overrated in my opinion...Actually Hicks had a couple good routines.
