A few days ago I was moderated for posting something apparantly too "off-topic" for Off Topic (as if that makes sense). I was posting links to my youtube page which featured, among other things, many game-related and fun videos. Days later I find a warning in my inbox and the post deleted, citing the rules saying it was "advertising/spam". People post links to videos and youtube on here all the time, and yet no one ever seems to have a problem with it. It simply doesn't make sense.

I guess its hard to understand the fascists at the very top of the pile at CNET and the "special interests" they must be protecting in order to make life as draconian as possible for everybody else. I bet they're all no different than some of the people who've run our country's reputation into the ground.

I strongly urge anybody who agrees to boycott these idiots and make them suffer where it hurts the most, in the wallet.

Because it was YOUR YouTube page. That's where the advertising part comes in, as you were advertising your own page.

My point is that alot of the rules are so draconian that they basically give these people a free hand to abuse their power at will, just like alot of the things our government does. But now its on a smaller level. Ironically enough, as a firm believer in the philosophies of John Locke, I think only the government is capable of stepping in and preventing the abuse and idea of "its our service, we can treat you however the hell we want". Government ought to regulate private business in that respect.

No....government should only step in to make sure wages are fair and employee safety is considered. Sorry...but government should not be concerned whether you get a moderation on a forum. :|

Gamespot could ban you for using the letter 'E' and there would be nothing you could do. It's their site, their rules. Quit complaining.

It's not just about forums.....its about restricting the policies of private companies from restricting free speech....whether its from preventing possession union "literature" on the job site (I've personally dealt with this), to protection of whistleblowers to even, yes, freedom of speech on a paid subscriber internet forum.

Think about it, dude.

That's exactly my point. Government regulation is definitely needed in private business when that type of thing occurs.

Freedom of Speech is a government freedom...not a private freedom. And there are laws in place to protect whistleblowers.

I don't know, I was taking down an entire level a few weeks ago for making a joke having nothing whatsoever to do with anything offensive. If anything, it was nothing more than spam. I guess it's just based on the moderator's mood at the time...kind of like Mesopotamean gods if anyone gets that reference.
