Yeah I was kind of surprised that he said this, considering that I viewed WholeFoods as being a business with a predominately liberal clientele. Though I think boycotting the place over this is kind of overreacting, though i've heard of other silly boycotts (such as some people boycotting Divine Mercy pharmacies because they don't carry contraceptives, It doesn't make sense to boycott over that because if the boycott causes the pharmacy to close down now they won't be selling anything).

Whole Foods has very few national competitors. I grew up in a place with a TON of organic-based supermarkets that competed with Whole Foods, and sold better goods at a lower price. Despite this, Whole Foods still does great business where I'm from. The situation would be compounded heavily in other places without competitors to WF. I don't think the CEO would say this if he wasn't confident that the backlash would be able to be weathered.
