My mom recently planned this overnight trip to New Jersey to visit my grandmother that I haven't seen nor had a relationship with in years for the weekend. I really didn't want to waste my weekend going. But pretty much agreed. Conveniently though, I got a sore throat last night. My parents are yelling at me to come regardless and that I'm selfish. The trip would include hours in the car and sleeping in a hotel. I truly believe I'd get better at home, not to mention I'd rather stay here. They started using excuses about it being against the law for me to stay home..which is completely untrue. I'm seventeen...so who is in the right? Should I suck up my sickness and agree to go for the rest of the drueling weekend or should my mom understand and let me stay home?
She should understand that it's only going to get worse if you go on a road trip. No, it is not illegal for you to stay home alone either.Solid_Snake7287
Yeah...I called her selfish and she got all offended. My step dad is a doctor and looked at my throat and agreed it was red. He said he'd bring lozenges. I laughed.

lol...let me also say that my grandmother hasnt been the nicest over the years. my mom and her are the ones that really havent gotten along, so thats why our relationship hasnt been close...but ty for ur opinion :P
my parents just sat by my bed for the past 3 hours telling me how awful of a person i am for not getting up and going. they want to send me to a psychiatrist...when i called my real dad to talk they sat outside my room talking about how sad it was and how he cant help me :O
my step dad said if i dont come theyll cancel the trip...and if they cancel the trip...there will be repercussions :// am i crazy or are they lawl...i dont feel well and dont wanna go :(
Maybe they resent the fact that you agreed and now you're using illness as an excuse? Have you considered being honest, and saying that you dont know the person or have anything to talk about with her, and thus there's little poing you going all that way?

i was honest...i seriously do have a sore throat...i will live by going...but i dnt want to...and that is another part of it...my grandmother and i arent close... ;(

No but you told them you WOULD go. Now you're using your sore throat as an excuse. Perhaps they just wish you'd been honest and told them in the first place that you didn't want to go, rather than agreeing and then going back on it when you realised your bad throat might get you out of it.
You should have been honest with them from the beginning.
If you're going to come up with an excuse, at least use one that isn't lame as hell. Sore throats aren't a big deal. :roll: You agreed, and you're going. I'm not going to condemn you for lying, but I will condemn you for being a ****y liar.
I could see your point if it was a chest cold, but a sore throat is pushing it. In all honesty, i would be taking your parents side right now. I'm willing to bet that if they were taking you someplace you wanted to be, you would happily go along.
