So many great hilarious films from the two, well, ok not TOO many from Tucker, but both have been in many gems and a few drawbacks. I personally choose Eddie Murphy. Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2, 48 hours, Trading Places, and more, but mostly during his pre-90's career when he started going down hill with, although Nutty Professor, the first one, was ok. and a couple others. after around 2004-5 I would give it to Chris Tucker.

Has Chris Tucker been in any movies lately? The only thing he was good in was Friday, and the 5th Element. Murphy was the Comedy king of the 80's and Early 90's. He hasn't made anything decent in a good long while. But Tucker hasn't come close to Murphy's greatest roles. Murphy and it's not even close

I like Murphy a lot more. Tucker's high pitch voice annoys me a bit and probably forces me to be a lil bias towards him as an entertainer.

Eddie Murphy on resume alone, although Chris has been excellent recently (Silver Linings Playbook).

I liked Eddie in a lot of his 80s movies, but I don't really care for either. My favorite black comedian is Dave. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLWlBgj0uOc .

Eddie Murphy early on in his career was awesome, and his standup is some of the funniest stuff ever. Tucker, on the other hand, is annoying.

You didn't even like De Niro's comeback performance?

It wasn't bad, but there was nothing noteworthy about it either. It was just De Niro giving a sh1t about acting again.

Chris Tucker, he is funnier looking and talks funny too.  Eddie Murphy seems quite a bit more serious than Tucker.

Chris Tucker for consistency, he was also good in Silver Lining playbook which is a good movie on it's own accord. I ain't really seen enough movies of Eddie to say his better than Chris Tucker.

Well considering their current levels of suck cancel each other out I'd go with who was the best in their prime, and that would easily be Eddie Murphy.

Eddie Murphy, all things considered.

The only way I could even consider Chris Tucker to be funnier was if I ignored almost half of Eddie Murphy's entire career.

Eddie Murphy, for a variety of reasons:

1.  his Saturday Night Live career

2.  Coming to America, Trading Places, Beverly HIlls Cop

3.  standup shows

4.  his transition from a hilarious but coke-induced comedian to a more family-friendly but still fairly funny actor was smoother than most :P

80s Eddie, grew up with BH cops. He is the shell of his former self, I assume the same with Tucker after RH & Friday.
