Ive noticed that a lot of people on OT have a hatred of Walmart. They say that it drives small companies out of business and treat their employees badly.

First off, Ive seen a lot of employees at Walmart, and none of them look like they are being overworked or abused. Im sure a lot of them make minimum wage, but how many jobs can you get where the starting is above minimum wage (w/o any type of college degree or skill)? As a matter of fact, Ive seen a lot of diversity in Walmart. I see men, women, teenagers, seniors, people of ALL races, and even people with disabilities working there.

Next, so what if they drive smaller companies out of business? This is not like the early 20th century where oil companies were buying out other companies to keep the price of their product high. Walmart does it by keeping low prices. That is what they are known for, low prices. In a capitalistic society you can not expect people to buy expensive things just to keep other businesses running.

I will say that the quality of their products arent the greatest, but its not like i am buying TVs and laptops from Walmart, only cheaper household items and such.

Many people hate anything that resembles a monopoly. And it's just cool to hate Walmart, I guess.

Personally, I like it. I can now afford things that I couldn't before at the smaller businesses. They charged too much for me to pay for it.

I think Wal Mart is stupid because they are Robber Barons.

I don't like what they do to eliminate competition.

I live in a small town, and Walmart didn't shut anything down. In fact, it brought in more business because of the extra tourism revenue. (Up north here, the towns are far apart. If one town has a Walmart, everyone will come and buy stuff.)

I personally have no issue with Walmart, I don't really go there often, though.

I like low prices. I don't like how Wal Mart lowers their prices to eliminate competition. Then they just raise the prices back to normal after the competition is out of buisiness. The also treat their employees like CRAP.

I refuse to shop there.

There is probably nothing wrong with the stores but... as for the company.

The main problem with the company is they do so much business that manufacturers have to have their items on walmarts shelves. The problem with that is that walmart has been bullying suppliers in order to sell them the stock at a lower price... thats how walmart can sell stuff cheaper then anywhere else. so basically they hold them hostage... its basically eitehr you sell it to use cheaper then you do to other retailers or we wont stock your product.

Other then that though i guess theya re fine, except they probably buy all their products from china or something so its not helping the trade deficit of the US.

Well, my info on Walmart may be old but as far as I know they:

-Don't have a worker union
-Offer low prices because they can afford it due to their vast market share. It assures they'll take a large portion of business wherever they locate to.

I think the last time I bought something there, I was in a rush to buy blank CDs and bought a 20 spindle for 8.99. It was a ripoff. The sony 20 disc spindles were going for cheaper, but the last 2 spindles I got by Sony all smelled of some strange fuel. Like someone poured gasoline over them. They stunk up my room.

Also, Walmart's selection sucks.

They underpay workers in foreign countries (many suspect they have sweatshops) to keep their prices low.'

So, I'm pretty sure taking advantage of desperate people living in poverty to make profit=evil.

So what, you grow your own food, and make your own clothes...

How many companies out there actually care about their foreign workers? Unless you make your own stuff, or buy extremely expensive things (Rolex's, BMWs, Armani), where they need skilled workers to make their products, you are buying things that get imported from other countries where the workers arent getting the beest treatment.

So because everyone does it makes it right? Almost all corporations are evil, Walmart is just one of the biggest/worst.

My gripes with Wal-Mart:

1. Someone earlier stated that Wal-Mart hires almost everyone...seniors, tenagers, etc. And that's the problem...how about hiring someone with some basic knowledge of the area that they work in? It's annoying when three seperate employees need to have a conference call just to tell me where the tube socks are located.

2. Can they PLEASE have at least one person in the appropiate area at all times? Tried to buy a PS2 game some time back and I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to open up the display case.

3. It's particularly annoying to have someone check your bags to see if you're stealing anything. I understand it's their job, but when the bag checker is less than 10 feet from the line I was on AND WAS WATCHING ME THE WHOLE TIME?

As far as I'm concerned, screw 'em.

Quite the jump there. Many suspect that they have sweatshops. Therefore they are evil. Regardless of whether they do. The mere fact that they might means they are evil. Hmm...

Define underpay. Less pay in comparison to the United States, that's likely. There are also few countries who have a living cost as high as the one here. Someone could be making a dollar a day and if the living expense is fifty cents a day, they would be making more money than many people here in relativity.

Did you ask the person in the clothing department. If you asked the person in electronics or toys, it's understandable that they wouldn't know where they were.

They have prescriptions now for cheap. :D

Me like wal-mart now even though I don't need prescriptions.
