Why are cigarettes legal??

Me personaly, i am against cigarettes and drugs but i don't understand why the cigarette isn't in the "drugs list" together with weed\cheeba\indo (baa it has at least 20 names...). I mean i know that cigarettes are less dangerous in meanings of health than the weed but the cigarette is the number one facor of cancer in the world and many people dying becuase of this ****. Both weed and cigarette work by smoking them i mean it's the same action to both of them but cigarette still ain't illegal...

Probably because it would seem to be entirly unfeasable and most people would simply find it ridiculous.

What about the millons of people addicted to them? are they just going to go cold turkey? Idk how one would solve that problem.

You'll also have to deal with the fact that most people, even non-smokers would not be willing to accept the government telling them what they can anf cannot do or put into their bodies.

I enjoy smoking tobacco (not cigs) and would have no problem if they made cigs pure tobacco rather than having them put in various toxic chemicals but I wouldnt knoe how that would be done.

Also smoking pot is not as bad as being addicted to ciggerettes in terms of detriment to ones health, but my laptop is running low on batteries so I wont have time to debate not to mention its already off topic.

Nicotine does not have the ability to create intoxication or severely impair motor skills, therefore is not listed as an illegal drug. That was part of my modern american government textbook int he chapter about modern problems. Thats what the government has said in documents why they havent banned cigarettes.

I should have been more clear: They arent on the list of banned substances. And another reason why alcohol and cigarettes arent on the banned substance list is because it takes a substantially larger amount of either to impair the average person to the effect of what a much smaller amount of any certain banned substance would.

Wow I didnt realize it was that addictive, but I guess if you did it so often at a young age then who knows. I actually tried it the first time a few days ago becuase my friend does it and talks about it being relaxing and giving you a buzz but I dont know, to be honest its was kinda weird, plus I suck at spitting for some reason and everytime Id spit Id git saliva and dip all around my mouth or clothes lol. I think id rather just smoke personally, I find that to be more relaxing.

Mouth cancer can make you look like a freak though (But so can throat cancer). This guy came to our school in like 2002 when I was in highschool and warned us about the dangers of chewing tobacco. He had this huge hole in his face, like someone had broken his jaw completely then cut off the hanging part. It, and he, was nasty.

Cigarettes are worse than weed, cigs have nicotine which kills, weed is a herb, and nobody has ever died from weed. The only reason why weed is illegal is because the government can't tax weed. There are drugs that are much much worse, like salvia which is legal.

So next time it would help to know what you were talking about before you said anything, just because others say weed is bad doesn't mean its worse than cigarettes.

I would like to see smoking (as well as alcohol) illegal. But there are so many smokers that the prison system simply cannot handle the large number of smokers out there. However, the government has taken steps to discourage smoking. For example, where I live, smoking is illegal in many public buildings. Smoking sections in restaurants have been made illegal as well. The only place for people to smoke is outside; even if the weather is bad. So although smoking is still legal, steps have been taken to make it inconveient and impractical for to start smoking and to encourage current smokers to quit.

As long as smokers/drinkers don't hurt anyone else what concern is it of yours? Making either illegal will just stretch the limits of the law enforcement. Neither is going away. You have ONLY to look at drugs to see that making something illegal does NOT eradicate it.
