Why are drugs illegal

Im not really sure why they are illegal. Most of them have been legal for ages. Is it the social risks or health risks or what? Im sure most drugs could be legalized without any risks and some with benefits. What do you think ot?

EDIT: You're right though, some drugs like Marijuana have the potential of being legalized with little risk.

They have screwed a lot of people up at cartain times in history and scapegoats are always nice.

At least they SAY they screwed a lot of people up. I don't know. I wasnt there. And are you really going to trust them, man? The human race percerviered through thousands and thousands of years of un regulated drug use and trade though.

- Health issues that arise from heavy drug use

- To ensure that the tobacco and alcohol industries stay in business

- Drug addicts may turn to crime to fund their habits

- Pressure from families of people who've died from drug abuse

Drugs are illegal because they kill people or have the potential to allow them to do bad things. But really making drugs illegal is like trying to make sharp things illegal. Everything is dangerous to some extent - just don't be an idiot.

I've never done a drug in my life and I think marijuana should be legalized to it's fullest. Though I'm all for cracking down on meth, cocaine, and heroin as much as possible. Those lead to depressing lives, missing teeth, broken families, and prostitutes.

If drugs were legal lots more people would do them and this would be bad for everyone.

Mostly the illegal drugs carry some sort of health risk, however in the case of cannabis it was out lawed as a way to discriminate agianst the Mexican workers.MrRomanov61

Because they are a temporary escape from reality but cause long term social, economic and physical damages to people not being helpful to people or a solution.

They are illegal because of the ignorant religious government we have(who will hopefully die off soon, though even by looking through some threads like these I see we have a new generation of ignorance) who feel the need to imply their trim&tidy lifestyles on everyone else. There is absolutely no reason marijuana and psyches should be illegal, tell me all you want about it, ill argue back. I also believe drugs like meth, cocaine, and heroin should be legal as well. They obviously arent going anywhere any time soon so whats the point of having them illegal? does more harm than good. Why should someone who does cocaine, goes out and parties and goes to work the next day be put in jail? no sense Why should someone who snorts heroin and lives in absolute heaven on a weekend afternoon be thrown in the slammer? no sense Alot of you would be surprised how many people have done hard drugs just once or twice and never touch them again. I'm perfectly fine with marijuana, but those hard drugs really **** people up. And I know very few who stop.
