"The reason guns are black is because of a process known as "bluing" which was invented to prevent guns rusting in normal use. The steel that gun barrels are made from is very easily rusted, not just by getting wet but by things like finger marks. Many years ago gunsmiths invented a process called "bluing" which is the treatment of metal with chemicals to cause a controlled oxidation of the metal. The result is that the treated steel turns a very dark blue (almost black) in colour and is more resistant to rusting.
With the advent of chrome steels you now see guns that are bright and shiny, but most guns are still produced in blued finish."
That's what I've read anyways.

Or maybe this is the reason. I'll go with the quote."The reason guns are black is because of a process known as "bluing" which was invented to prevent guns rusting in normal use. becuase guns are racist!
but seriously come on dude, is it really that hard to figure out why youd want your guns in dark colors?

How? I was thankful actually, it was the only thing he stole from our apartment....lots of people have guns....
Guns can be blued to any color you want. ANY. Because it's an oxcide salt. You can make empurple, red, baby blue, pink, green, yellow. Most people don't want those colors though. And since guns are used tactically most people prefer something low profile. SO they want a dark color.
It's really rust. When you blue a gun you are surfacerusting that coat to the metal. It's oxidation. You can make them pitch black with the blue salt. It's oxide salt it's just know as blueing salt. I guess cause blue is a more popular color than black. It's easier for dumbies to understand as well.
Not all guns are blued. Many are parkarized which is an oil based finish that is either gray, charcoalor black.
Many manufacturers now used a colored plating over stainless. It's similar to anodized. It's a stainless metal that they coat with a black or blue finish that hardens into a plating. What makes this better is that it makes it better than oxide. Oxcide will still rust. The salt from your hands will cause it to rust so you have to clean it. But with a plated stainless steel you don't have bother with it, ibecause it won't rust or pit. Sig Sauer, Glock, Beretta Smith & Wesson & others use this method on may of their handguns.
You have never seen charcoal blue or rose red? Charcoal blue is a sky blue finish that is bright like neon. And rose red is a really lusterous bright red finish.

Well. That dude might go kill someone now and you'll get blamed if they find YOUR gun at the crime scene. I'm sure they have ways of tracking down the identity of the gun's owner.[QUOTE="steppinrazor88"][QUOTE="fourier404"][QUOTE="steppinrazor88"]I've seen guns that were'nt black >_> I had one actually....but it got stoleded :cry:Lobster_Ear

Still. You can get in quite a sticky situation if it happened. You'll still have to go through a few steps before you're cleared from their "suspect" list, I'm sure. I'm just saying...it could be a hassle.[QUOTE="fourier404"][QUOTE="steppinrazor88"]I've seen guns that were'nt black >_> I had one actually....but it got stoleded :cry:steppinrazor88

Yes, that is bad. Especially if you don't report it stolen, because if you bought that gun legally it is in your name. Someone could use it to hurt someone else, but they could use anything to hurt someone else. It's not like you can cripple or controlsomeones ability to harm others.I bet the theif sold it at a gun show or pawned it, didn't use it to harm anyone. And if they broke in and that's all they stole they knew you had it so the thief is someone you know. The thief usually issomeone you know.
Many people WHOM know what they are doing remove the firing pin & or hammer springsfrom their stored guns. The average theif wont know it doesn't work nor why. Neither will a hoodlum. They will just assume it's broken and leaveit. They don't know how to fix it anyway.
Thank you, I feel I have learned something:)"The reason guns are black is because of a process known as "bluing" which was invented to prevent guns rusting in normal use.
