Stricter Gun control laws make it harder for civillians to get them, not criminals. Criminals just buy them off the black market. Notice where there's stricter gun control laws, theres more crime like ny. That might have a connection.

agreed.
If that were true, then places where guns are "illegal" (take Japan, for instance) would be chaos.Stricter Gun control laws make it harder for civillians to get them, not criminals. yeah I find this thread unconvincing. Also criminals can go to gun shows where it is not illegal to buy as many gunss you wantwithout following standard rules because they do not apply to un shows. So I feel that more strict gun control is needed. so the myth of black market guns are only where they can get them since they can get them anywhere easier then the black market and legally.
Because it's outdated, overrated and, in terms of how it was intended, useless in the modern day to everyone but uncivilised revolutionary college students and rednecks that think the world's problems can be easily solved by firing enough rounds at the government.
If there is more crime in a place that bans guns, that is a correlational deal and not a causal deal. Japan fully outlaws guns and yet their gun crime rate is very low.
Guns should remain in the militia where they belong.

So we eliminate
1. Access to guns, and
2. Cultural obsession over guns.

any criminal that knows about guns knows where to get them and gunshows have a loop hole that is simply a legal "don't ask just sell" policies. how do you think illegal gun sellers get their guns they find that loop hole and exploit it.

no... it doesn't. If you're going to bring 'variables' like that in, we might as well just discuss why the world is full of bad people in the first place.Because the amount of criminals killed through self defense because a civilian had a gun is probably much much lower than the amount murders committed where the criminal was able to acquire guns from the USA legally or otherwise (if guns were illegal, gun stores wouldn't need to exist) This "they would try to get guns in other ways anyway" argument is arcane. It's analogous to saying lets make racism and discrimination okay because some people will always be racist. munu9
The argument applies to every crime and unethical thought or action ever to exist in any culture at any period in history. We have murder as illegal, but that hasn't stopped murders from occurring, therefore murder should be legal? Only if you apply the same argument people apply to the justification for guns (and drugs, as of late).

Outdated amendment.. The amendment specifically says arms.. Seeing as basically the most powerful weapon they had was cannons that seriously does not compare to day.. Where we have high yield explosives (ignoring the WMD's overcourse), high calibre machine guns that can take a house apart in seconds etc etc.. There obviously needs to be some translation by today's standards.. I think its safe to say that certain weapons like assualt rifles and automatic weapons are not needed in civilian life be that for hunting or even defense.. I am perfectly fine with pistols, hunting rifles, and shotguns.. When you get into the said weapons, its when the police themselves start becoming outgunned in hardware, inless they bring in swat.sSubZerOoA lot of the amendments were in response to what the British did before the revolutionary war. One interpretation of the second amendment would that they wanted you to have the freedom to own a gun so that whenever there was a foreign invader or a time of war. You could use the gun to defend your country. Counter to popular belief, I don't think the designer of the constitution really wanted you to have a gun so that you could defend yourself from people breaking into your house or some random criminal mugging you on the street.

what's the difference? An invader is an invader. Are you saying it's okay to be able to protect yourself from another nation but not from a fellow American?

someone is watching to many actions movies. getting a gun in the US is to easy one doesn't need to resort to such "tactics"
For those who oppose, what would you do if someone with an illegal gun broke into your house with intentions to rape your wife or steal your kids?
Uhm... lets not forget that a HUGE amoung of the shootings and murders in the US is NOT gang related? (well that part is huge aswell) but the average murder is likely a fairly normal human being who has access to a gun (self defence weapon) and kills wife (and this scenario is very normal).
I Do support stricter gun laws, mostly because humans are natively irrational, anger, jealousy, alcoho, are in all people, and when you are angry you do NOT think rationally (some more then others, but still).
Also "Criminals" can not be slapped into a group like that, while some gang members may opt for Black Market guns, (the Mac-10-11s are infamus for this) The still is a whole lot of criminals who prefers to use Legal weapons, Afterall... one of the more preferred weapons of a Criminal is the Glock (yeah the kind the police uses aswell) or the 1911... Because that these two handguns are fairly small, are chambered with a very capable at killing people, it is concelable, and IF you get busted by a random raid, they have nothing on you.
Oh... statistics statictics... does this sound familier? "It is more likely thata family member accedently shootshimself/herself with your gun, then it is for you to shoot a perp?" yeah that sums it up pretty much.
